A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 394

Holden couldn't live without her. His devotion was unfathomable. She couldn't let him down now.

The hospital corridor was dimly lit, casting a pale, clinical glare across the floor. The harsh light highlighted the weary faces of patients shuffling around in pain.

Iris felt deeply out of place. She gritted her teeth, reminding herself she was doing this for Holden, and made her way up to the 22nd-floor inpatient ward to clear her head.

Just as she approached the elevators, the heavy doors rattled open, and a small crowd spilled out. Her gaze immediately locked onto a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses.

"Dr. Adams?!"

Holden's accident had been kept strictly under wraps, so she was stunned to see Quentin here.

Quentin turned. The base of the fruit basket he was holding had been crushed by the crowd in the elevator. He spent a moment straightening it out before looking up.

Iris raised an eyebrow. "How did you find out?"

Quentin ignored her question. "Are you here to see Winifred, too?"

What?

Iris's ears pricked up. "You're here for Winifred?"

Quentin forced a polite smile. "Yes."

"Is she sick?!" Iris asked, her voice rising with sudden excitement.

When Winifred's kids had been hospitalized, they were in the pediatric wing. If Quentin was visiting the main hospital, it clearly had nothing to do with the brats.

Quentin gave a terse nod, offering absolutely nothing else. He clearly had no intention of broadcasting Winifred's private medical details.

Iris flipped a strand of her perfectly styled hair. "Holden was in a car accident. He's in surgery. I'm here for him."

"Oh?" Quentin looked mildly surprised.

Seeing an opening, Iris pressed. "So Winifred had surgery? What happened? Is it serious?"

Quentin looked haggard, his voice flat. "It's... an old injury acting up."

"Sorry, I need to go share these cookies with my parents. I don't have time to chat with you," Seth deadpanned.

A roar of laughter erupted from several people inside.

It was unsettling. Even when Winifred was smashed to pieces at rock bottom, there were always people rallying to lift her up.

Iris suddenly felt lightheaded. She braced a hand against the wall to steady her trembling legs. Nothing bad had happened to her today. Winifred was the one recovering from surgery. She posed no immediate threat.

And yet, Iris felt a profound, suffocating terror she couldn't even put into words.

"Dr. Adams, I think I'll leave you to it," Iris said weakly, still clinging to the wall.

Quentin, still on the phone with a dark expression on his face, simply nodded and waved her off.

Iris stumbled away, retreating into the harsh, sterile lights of the corridor like a ghost fleeing the dawn.

Quentin hung up.
