A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 396

She had a new man. Her kids had a new father.

The reality was absolutely devastating.

But Quentin refused to accept that this was the end. His mind scrambled, desperate for a lifeline, until he finally latched onto a glimmer of hope.

She had heavily supported his career. She had joined Iris-Adams Biopharma for him, handing over eight exclusive, proprietary formulas. For a woman to sacrifice her life's work to support a man meant he still held a paramount place in her heart.

Looking at Winifred again, a wave of guilt washed over him.

"I know I messed up. I broke your heart and disappointed you so deeply that you built up all this hatred. I understand why you want to punish me."

His apology sounded painfully sincere. "I am so sorry, Winifred."

"Focus on getting better."

"We can talk about us once you've fully recovered."

Once he convinced himself she still loved him, the panic faded. There was no need to rush. By the time she was out of the hospital, Iris-Adams Biopharma would have disrupted the entire medical industry with her formulas. He would be standing at the absolute pinnacle of success, and he would use that power and wealth to heal the wounds he had inflicted on her.

He still had a chance.

Quentin threw one last condescending look at Leland. "I am, and always will be, the man who was there for her first. Whatever feelings she has for a guy who just swooped in halfway through... you can't compete with us."

Leland chuckled, thoroughly entertained. "Dr. Adams, right? You certainly have a vibrant imagination. Fascinating."

Quentin's face hardened. "I'm done talking. May the best man win."

With that, he spun on his heel and fled the room.

Iris, having made an equally frantic escape, wasn't faring any better.

Back in Ward 3, Holden lay in his bed, thick white gauze covering both eyes. Iris sat beside him, resting her chin in her hands and sighing heavily.

"What's wrong, Iris?" Holden asked, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Iris knew he hated Winifred just as much as she did. They had always been on the exact same page when it came to her. When Winifred suffered, they celebrated together. When Winifred succeeded, they conspired to drag her right back into the dirt.

"Holden, I ran into Quentin Adams tonight. He came to see Winifred. He said she's having surgery for some old injury."

Holden slammed his fist onto the mattress.
