For the first time in three years, Winifred felt heartbroken over this man.
She turned her face away, unable to bear looking.
Sitting in her wheelchair, Nelly didn't notice Winifred's emotions and asked earnestly, "Iris, what's wrong with Jordyn?"
Iris replied, "She... she's full and just wanted to play. The petals on the red carpet smelled nice, so she rolled around for fun."
"Did not! I don't like flowers!" Jordyn yelled back at the top of her lungs.
"You!!"
Holden stepped in just in time to smooth things over, "Mrs. Sutton, sorry to intrude. I'll take the child aside to talk for a bit."
"Yes, you should have a good talk. Children need to learn manners. Everyone who is anyone in Kingsbridge is here today; our family's reputation matters."
Holden had barely walked away with Jordyn when loud wailing erupted. The three of them stopped a short distance away. The child thrashed and screamed while the two adults hovered around, trying to coax her.
Winifred stared, unable to stop herself from comparing her own son and daughter to Jordyn. Her ears were filled with Nelly's complaints.
"The Morgan family really is from small origins, lacking in upbringing. Just look, the granddaughter doesn't have a single trace of high-society elegance."
Nelly's nanny hurried to comfort her, "Don't worry, ma'am. The son-in-law promised that since he has a son and a daughter living elsewhere, those unruly children won't affect Ms. Yvonne."
Another nanny chimed in to soothe her, "That's right. The unruly kids have a celebrity aunt. Big stars are public figures and care about their image. Ms. Morgan will definitely keep an eye on her."
Jordyn was Iris's niece? That meant... she was her brother Owen's daughter. The little girl wasn't Iris and Holden's child.
Hearing this, Winifred's thoughts shifted.
Iris truly treated her brother well. To help him marry a top-tier heiress, she stepped up as a parent before even getting married herself.
And Holden was truly good to Iris, loving her and everyone connected to her, pouring his heart and soul out for her.
Just then, Holden and his little family of three turned back around.
Perhaps afraid that her brother's child had embarrassed the Morgan family and might affect her brother's "future" in the Sutton family, Iris specifically explained the reason for her niece's tantrum.
"Mrs. Sutton, it's like this. Jordyn was hit by a boy named Seth at kindergarten yesterday. She had nightmares last night, and the fear carried over to today. She didn't take a nap, so she's exhausted and acting out."
As soon as she said this, Iris looked at Holden shyly.
The man smiled back at her with absolute doting, "I'll go to the kindergarten with you tomorrow, don't worry."
A chubby little hand patted his beautifully sculpted jaw.
Jordyn pinched his chin and reminded him, "Uncle Holden, tomorrow is Sunday."
Holden affectionately nuzzled the little palm, "Then Uncle Holden will go see your teacher on Monday and make her drag out that little brat who hit you."
Jordyn was thrilled.
"Uncle Holden, you'll hit him back for me and teach Seth a harsh lesson, right?"
"Right," Holden smiled.
Iris felt a surge of pride at the scene, "Holden, you spoil Jordyn too much."
Holden replied, "Loving your family means loving you."
