Chapter 123

Ashley’s POV

I casually handed my invitation to the security chief at the entrance.

He took the black invitation with Bloodmoon Pack’s dark golden emblem embossed on it and carefully opened the heavy card. But the respect on his face froze the moment he looked inside.

Frowning, he flipped the invitation over a couple of times, as if checking for something he might’ve missed. Then, he raised his head, and there it wasthat awkward, almost pitying look in his eyes as he glanced at me.

Apologies, ma’am,his tone was stiff, professional. He handed the invitation back to me. This is blank. There’s no valid information to verify your identity, no official stamp from Bloodmoon Pack. I can’t let you in.

Blank?

My mind buzzed like a struck gong, and my stomach dropped like a rock. I yanked the invitation back from him and stared at the inner page.

Dear Moon Goddess! It really was blankjust an empty, glaring sheet of black!

What the hell was going on? Hebert’s assistant had personally handed it to me before the trip. Could someone have tampered with it?

Ha! Hahaha!Silvia’s sharp, shrill laughter cut through the tense silence like a blade. She was doubled over, practically shaking in her pink rhinestone dress, which fluttered awkwardly with her movements. Oh my God, Ashley! You’re the biggest joke of the century! You came here with some blank piece of paper and thought you could pass it off as a toptier invitation? Have you lost your mind working on those dusty ledgers back at the Bloodmoon estate?

The crowd erupted into mocking laughter again. Those sneering faces, those condescending gazes, they felt like needles stabbing into my skin, one by one.

Humiliation washed over me like a dark tide, suffocating and endless. My cheeks burned, hotter than ever, as my nails dug deep into my palms, so hard it felt like they’d draw blood.

Brian stepped forward, casual yet dripping with arrogance, his dark blue eyes gleaming with an unmistakable satisfaction. He looked down at me, his smirk sharp enough to cut glass.

Enough of this pathetic show, Ashley,he said, his voice heavy with superiority, like he owned the entire night. Stop this charade. Hebert doesn’t care about you. He couldn’t even bother giving you a real invitation. Do you get it now? You have no place here.

He extended his handlarge, commanding, with a smug little tilt to ithovering right in front of me. Beg me. Right here, in front of everyone. Admit you were wrong, and maybe I’ll be generous enough to let you in.

Beg him?

My jaw clenched so tight it hurt, the metallic tang of blood filling my mouth.

You wish, Brian.I spat out coldly, crumpling the blank invitation into a tight ball and hurling it against his

chest with force.

I had no intention of wasting another second with these two obnoxious people. If I couldn’t finish what I’d come here for, I’d much rather return to the Alpha Manor of the Bloodmoon Pack than stay here being their little sideshow.

I turned sharply, the click of my heels marking my determination as I prepared to walk out of this ridiculous gathering for good.

But just as I took my first step, a sudden burst of hurried footsteps came from behind me.

Wait! Ms. Ashley! Please stop!

I froze midstep and glanced back. The security chief, who had been so dismissive before, was now charging toward me like his life depended on it. His face was pale as a slivet, and sweat was pouring down his forehead.

He stopped abruptly just a step away from me, then, to everyone’s shock, bent forward into a deep, ninetydegree bow, his voice trembling with panic and desperation.

My sincerest apologies, Ms. Ashley! This is a massive error on our part! His words tumbled out in a frantic rush, I just received an urgent directive from my superiors! Your invitation wasn’t blank because of any mistake on your endit was a printing system error! You are, without a doubt, the most important VIP of tonight’s event! Please, I beg you, don’t hold our incompetence against us!

What?

I froze completely. The air around med to lock in place.
