Chapter 128

And now, this two–faced chameleon has somehow rebranded herself as Cecilia’s devoted sidekick.
“You filthy little reject!” Cecilia’s shrill voice cut through the silence of the hallway like nails on a chalkboard. She stormed toward me, heels stabbing the ground like daggers. “What kind of sleazy tricks did you pull to get VIP access from Hebert? Do you really think slapping on an expensive dress can hide that pathetic stink of poverty? How dare you, on my turf no less, steal the spotlight that rightfully belongs to me! You have no shame!”
I stood there, completely still, not even blinking.
“Princess Cecilia is absolutely right!” Selena immediately caught on to her master’s cue and arrogantly stepped forward, her plain face twisted with malice. “Ashley, you’re nothing but a useless waste without a wolf spirit! You don’t deserve to stand in this noble hallway! I’ll call the guards right now and have them strip that dress off you the one you clearly don’t deserve to wear–and toss you out of this manor like the pathetic stray you are!”
Strip off my dress?
The blood in my veins boiled instantly, but I refused to let my anger get the better of me. Instead, I let out a cold, mocking laugh.
Selena was nothing more than a pawn. The real issue here was Cecilia.
I shifted my gaze to Cecilia and said, “Honestly, I’m surprised. I always thought the Darkriver Pack’s princess carried an unshakable sense of charm and poise. But clearly, I was wrong. Who would’ve imagined that something as simple as me going to the restroom could destroy your self–confidence so completely? If your so–called pride is this fragile, it’s hardly worth calling an asset–more like a rotting piece of wood ready to crumble.”
“You–you vile bitch!” Cecilia lost all composure, her face twisting in a mask of raw humiliation and fury. She violently raised her hand, gloved in an expensive lace.
But I didn’t flinch. I stood tall, meeting her eyes with a cold, unyielding stare, as if I were looking at a lifeless
corpse.
“Go ahead, Cecilia.” My voice was steady, not a hint of shakiness, but laced with a chilling authority that cut right through the tension. “You, more than anyone, know exactly why I’m here. I’m holding the highest–level invitation, stamped with the Bloodmoon Pack’s golden crest. Right now, I represent the absolute will of the Bloodmoon Pack, the authority Hebert personally entrusted to me.”
I took a slow, deliberate step closer, forcing Cecilia to freeze mid–motion, her raised hand stiff in the air.
“If you actually dare to slap me, it won’t hit my face–it’ll land squarely on Hebert’s.” My words hit her where it hurt most. “I’m here tonight under his orders, carrying out work that’s crucial to him. And if either of you foolish women ruins Hebert’s strategic plans in front of the entire Southern Alliance because of your petty tantrums… take a wild guess what kind of brutal consequences Hebert will unleash on you.”
Cecilia’s pupils shrank to pinpoints, and the hand she’d raised to strike trembled violently but refused to descend.
I figured she knew what Hebert was like. For all his composure and calculated demeanor, when it came to his pack’s interests and reputation, the man was utterly unyielding.
Even Selena, who’d been full of obnoxious confidence moments ago, crumbled. Her smug expression instantly drained of color, and she shrank back behind Cecilia like a scared little chick, too terrified to even breathe.
The bitterness and humiliation boiled wildly in Cecelia’s eyes, but she suddenly dropped her hand, her chest heaving with rage.
