Chapter 154-

Chapter 154

Ashley’s POV

I stood beneath the dead oak tree at the edge of Blackwood Pack’s territory, clutching my wool shawl tightly around me.

“Ashley!” Vicki’s voice echoed in the wind.

Her eyes were red and puffy as she threw herself into my arms, her grip on my neck almost suffocating. I hugged her back jus hard. She was the only friend I had in Blackwood Pack.

“I’m going to miss you so much, Ashley.” Vicki’s voice broke as she struggled to hold back her sobs. “You won’t be part of Blackwood Pack anymore, and we’ll hardly get to see each other.”

A wave of stinging sorrow rose in my chest, and tears streamed down my face before I could stop them. “Me too, Vicki,” I said my voice choked. “I’ll miss you.”

Vicki pulled back just slightly, her hands cupping my face firmly. Her eyes shimmered with heartfelt hope. “I’m so happy for you! You’ve finally escaped this hellhole. You’ve got a fresh start ahead! The Moon Goddess will bless you, I know it!”

As we stood there, tangled in our bittersweet goodbye, the air suddenly turned heavy. A suffocatingly strong Alpha scent, shar and bitter, engulfed me like a destructive whirlwind.

I spun around on instinct.

That was the most pitiful version of Brian I’d ever seen!

His perfectly groomed blond hair was now a tangled mess resembling a bird’s nest, his bloodshot eyes glaring with desperation and the dark circles around them stark against his pale face. The expensive tailored suit he always wore with pride hung crumpled on his tall frame, making him look utterly defeated. Staggering toward me, he seemed like a shell of his former self, like a stray dog lost and broken.

“Ashley! Don’t go!” Brian’s voice cracked and rasped unbearably, as if it had been dragged across shards of glass.

He stopped a few paces away, his legs visibly shaking, almost like he could collapse at any moment. “Stay in Blackwood Pack!” He stretched his hands out toward me in a pleading gesture, his eyes brimming with a raw, desperate hope. “I swear, even though there’s no bond left between us, Blackwood will always shelter you! You don’t need to go to some other territory and deal with strangers! Just stay!”

Looking at him now, his pathetic state didn’t stir any emotion in me-noteven pity. The Alpha I’d once been infatuated with now felt like nothing more than a stranger passing by on the street.

“I don’t need this, Brian.” I locked my eyes on him, my voice calm but icy as I uttered every word clearly staying in the Blackwood Pack as a regular Omega will only make things awkward for everyone. I’m standing here today to cut ties with the past once and for all.”

“No!” Brian’s guttural roar echoed like a wild animal losing its mind. He lunged forward, his iron-like hand brutally grabbing my wrist.

“You can’t leave me! You’re mine!” He yanked me toward him, the crushing pain shooting from my wrist telt like my bones were going to snap completely.

“Let her go, Alpha Brian!” Vicki’s furious scream rang out as she rushed in to shove at Brian’s chest, desperate to free me from his grasp.

“Ger out of my way!” Brian bellowed and flung his arm wildly.

Thud! The raw force sent Vicki flying back hard, slamming onto the icy ground with a muttled groan or paint.

“Vicki!” I screamed in terror. My frantic struggles and kicks against Brian’s legs felt utterly futile me, no wolf spirit to speak of, was powerless against him.

Then, suddenly, an icy blast, sharp like a Siberian snowstorm and carrying the distinct scent of cedar, swept through the air.

The aura was terrifying, atop tier Alpha’s overwhelming and absolute dominance crashing into the scene.

Thud!

The bone-crushing collision sound exploded, heavy and horrifying in its intensity.

Brian was violently thrown back, landing hard against a dead oak tree several meters away. The rough bark shattered on impac and he spat out a mouthful of blood, curling up in pain on the ground.

The next moment, I found myself wrapped in a firm, warm embrace,

Hebert stood tall in a sleek black coat, his posture as unyielding as a mountain.

“Brian,” Hebert’s voice was calm but carried an unmistakable edge that could chill anyone to the bone. “I warned you once. If you so much as lay a finger on her again, I won’t hesitate to obliterate your territory.”

With cold disdain, he dropped a white handkerchief at Brian’s feet, his gaze as piercing as if he were staring at a vile cadaver.” Given Blackwood Pack’s pathetic finances and weak forces, how long do you think you’d hold against Bloodmoon Pack’s assault? A few hours, maybe?”

Brian struggled to prop himself up on his elbows, his handsome face now contorted in a grotesque mix of rage and despair. His labored breaths sent blood dripping into the dirt beneath him, but despite his glare fixed on me, he didn’t dare move a step under Hebert’s crushing presence.

Hebert added, “For the sake of the one time you saved Ashley, I’ll let you off this once.”
