Abandoned While Pregnant, Claimed by the Alpha novel Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Standing in the middle of this tacky, spice-scented banquet hall, I could feel my Alpha pride shattering alongside those gaudy purple lights flickering above me. One by one, the pack leaders arrived, their expressions so disgustingly vivid that it made me want to tear their throats out.

Their polite yet mocking smiles were like dull knives, scraping over my skin again and again.

“This is absolutely outrageous!” Grandmother stood stiffly next to me, her cane striking the marble floor with a sharp, resounding thud.

I scanned through the guest list, my face so dark it might have scared someone off. Bloodmoon Pack’s alpha, Hebert-his seat was glaringly empty.

“Where is Hebert?” Grandmother’s tone shot up several notches.

“He didn’t show up, Grandmother,” I replied through gritted teeth. “He sent a Beta instead, along with a completely half-hearted gift. The excuse? He’s supposedly ‘too busy’ with pack matters.”

“Arrogant fool!” Grandmother snarled, her chest heaving in anger. “How dare he? Just because he’s swallowed a few small packs, he thinks he no longer needs to respect the Blackwood family? A wolf who doesn’t understand basic courtesy will never make it far, no matter how strong they think they are! This- this is an open insult!”

I could feel the storm raging within me beneath the surface. That Hebert-how dare he blatantly ignore my invitation? The Bloodmoon Pack had risen to power abruptly over the past three years, but I wasn’t going to let him get away with this.

I immediately instructed Kael to dig deep into everything about this mysterious alpha. All I knew about him so far was that he hadn’t found his mate yet. But one thing was for sure-no one disrespects the Blackwood Pack and gets away with it.

At that moment, the Alpha of the Silverpeak Pack approached with his Luna by his side. The Luna glanced around the room, her gaze finally landing on Silvia, who was seated next to me. A sly smile played on her lips.

“Brian, I’ve heard some rumors,” the Alpha said, lowering his voice, an inquisitive undertone coloring his words. “Something about you going through a divorce… Is that why Ashley couldn’t make it today? Such a shame. I was really looking forward to discussing the artwork ‘Waiting’ with her. She’s the most talented Luna I’ve ever met.”

My back stiffened instantly. Ashley. Always Ashley. Even when she wasn’t here, her name hovered like a shadow over the entire room.

“You’ve got it wrong,” I said, forcing my tone to stay ice-cold, clinging to the authority of an Alpha. ” Ashley and I are solid. She’s recovering from an injury and needs rest. As for Silvia, she’s a hero to our pack, a good friend. She took on the responsibility of organizing this event despite being unwell, just to

help lighten Ashley’s load.”

“Oh?” The Luna of the Silverpeak Pack raised an eyebrow, her gaze lingering on the gaudy gold balloons for a moment. “No wonder the style has changed so much. When Ashley was in charge, every detail exuded elegance and sophistication, making us feel truly welcomed. But today…” She paused, a faint, meaningful smile appearing on her lips. “Today, what we’re experiencing is the overwhelming wealth of the Blackwood Pack. It’s… quite the display of money, isn’t it?”

Her thinly veiled jab made my expression darken instantly.

Yet, sitting nearby, Silvia seemed completely oblivious to the mockery in her words. Her pale face lit up with a flush of excitement, and she blurted out, almost too eagerly, “You really think so? Thank you so much for the compliment! Honestly, I believe that as a top-tier pack, we absolutely have to showcase this kind of unparalleled grandeur-that’s what signifies our status!”

I could feel the shift in the Alphas’ gazes around us. It was that condescending look, as if they were watching some second-rate circus act. Silvia’s shallowness and desperate need to impress were a complete embarrassment in the eyes of these old noble families.

I wanted nothing more than to shut her up right then and there.
