Chapter 48

Brian’s POV

Special guest???

Ashley. Rebecca. These two names clashed in my head like a thunderstorm, sparking chaos everywhere. No. This can’t be real. Rebecca was like a ghost-just a name whispered in art critiques and auction house legends. And Ashley… she was Brooklyn’s Cinderella, the Omega I pulled out from the mud, someone who couldn’t even summon her wolf spirit. How could these two identities belong to the same person? 2

Just minutes ago, I was mocking her using this very identity, throwing it in her face. But now? Reality came back and smacked me hard, loud and merciless. Me, the Alpha of Blackwood Pack, didn’t even know my own wife was the genius painter adored by all of North America’s elite society.

“Brian…” Silvia’s voice snapped me out of my spiraling thoughts. Her hand gripped my arm tightly, her violet eyes filled with shock and something else… something I couldn’t quite read. “How… how could she…”

I didn’t answer. Every bit of my attention was locked on the woman on stage. She stood there, calm and graceful, as if she was born to belong under those lights. Her face was perfectly composed, not a ripple of emotion. Her gray-blue eyes swept across the audience without even lingering on me for a second. In that moment, I wasn’t her husband, her Alpha—I was just another nameless face in the crowd of hundreds.

That feeling of being ignored and completely out of control knotted my emotions even tighter.

I didn’t catch a single word of the rest of the banquet. I sat there, stiff as stone, until the host finally announced it was over. As the crowd began to move, I saw Herbert escorting Ashley down the stage like some loyal knight, skillfully blocking the eager guests trying to approach her.

“Brian, we need to talk.” Silvia’s voice yanked me back to reality. She grabbed my arm and pulled me aside, away from the crowd, leading me out onto the terrace.

“Maybe… maybe you should reject her,” Silvia spoke cautiously, her eyes full of worry. “I mean it. Completely reject her. Brian, she’s Rebecca now–she has her own spotlight. She doesn’t need you anymore. Think about it—what if she walks around with your Alpha mark while parading with the Bloodmoon Pack’s Alpha? What will the whole alliance think of Blackwood Pack then? They’ll say Blackwood’s Alpha can’t even keep his own Luna in line!”

Her words hit like a perfectly aimed key, unlocking the cage of my wild, possessive beast in an instant. My anger had found its target and shot straight at her.

“Reject her?” My voice was a low growl, dark and sharp like the snart of a predator. “Is that what you want, Silvia? Push her out completely, so you can take her place as my wife for good?”

My fury startled her. Silvia’s face turned ghostly pale, and tears started rolling down her cheeks, big and heavy like pearls breaking from a necklace. “For good?” She let out a bitter laugh, shaky and fractured. “Brian, the doctors told me I’ve got less than six months left. I’d love ‘for good’… but I can’t.”

She took a sudden step back, as if what I said had physically cut her. “This is all… wrong,” she choked, her voice trembling, tears streaming down her pale face. “I shouldn’t have come back… Shouldn’t have disrupted your life. I should’ve just stayed out there, let those rogue wolves tear me apart. At least… at least then I wouldn’t have caused you all this trouble… all this pain…”

Damn it! I instantly reached out, grabbed her by the arm, pulling her into my chest. Her thin frame trembled in my grasp, fragile and defenseless, like a small bird caught in a storm.”

I’m sorry,” my voice softened, heavy with guilt, “I’m really sorry, Silvia. I just… I was too angry. This isn’t about you.” I gently ran my fingers through her hair, trying to calm her. “And I don’t believe Ashley would betray me.”
