Chapter 59

HW

Chloe swallowed the odd flutter in her chest and began surveying her growing collection of

treasures.

Her backpack bulged with all sorts of finds. In the forest, she barely paused to see what she grabbed; if it looked useful, she snatched it up and promised herself she’d sort it out later

First came the Arcane Materials.

She had three portions of Epic Active Vitality Fuel, 37 portions of Rare Active Vitality Fuel, and 65 portions of Rare Fire-Leech Moss.

Aside from those, there were also 87 portions of various rare plants: 13 portions of Mistweed. 7 portions of Fog Lotus, 27 portions of WindingVines, 5 portions of Lanternleaf, 10 portions of Withered Spiritual Plant, and 25 portions of Flame Fruit.

Most of these plants were wild prizes Chloe had snatched while foraging through the tangled forest indergrowth.

The WindingVines made excellent Arcane Construction Materials, but they were notorious for angling up her path. Chloe often found herself hacking through their stubborn coils with her knife ust to get by.

she’d stumbled upon the Flame Fruit scattered beneath a tree while gathering Vitality Fuel.

Their vivid red glow caught her eye, and she eagerly scooped every last one into her pack. Only after picking them up did Chloe realize they were special buff items.

Flame Fruit: A powerful fruit exposed to ten hours of sunlight. It’s rich in Fire Element and extremely juicy. Eating it slightly enhances physical strength.

Quality: Grand Rare

Corruption: Extremely Low

Status: Fresh

[Traits: Edible, High-Quality Ingredient, Element-Rich, Nourishing, Delicious Food]

Chloe examined a Flame Fruit, marveling at its lantern-like shape, just big enough to fill her palik Wisps of flame danced across its skin, as if it might burst into fire at any second.

To her surprise, it weighed more than she expected.

Chloe strolled to the carrot patch, gathered fresh dew, and gently washed the fruit until it gleamed

They the look a bite, and her eyes immediately lit up.

Wow. It’s sweet, crisp, and Incredibly juicy. It tastes like a mix of a crunchy peach and a cherry, only richer and more fragrant. This is incredible.

If someone brewed fruit tea with this back home, Chloe was sure it would taste incredible.

She hadn’t tasted any fruit in a long time, so she devoured the Flame Fruit in moments. Warmth and energy flooded her, and the chill in the air faded away

It was as if a tiny furnace had sparked to life inside her, radiating heat from her core to her fingertips.

Chloe looked at her status bar and saw a new buff called Warrath, which would last for four hours.

‘No wonder it counts as buff food, she thought.

After going a week without vegetables or fruit, Chloe was starting to understand just how important dietary fiber was.

Unfortunately, that lesson was hitting a bit too close to home.

Chloe thought, ‘Ugh. I still don’t have toilet tissue.’

For now, she lived like a cave dweller, making do with scratchy plant-fiber burlap. She tossed the scraps into the compost bin, much like cleaning up after a pet.

Others in the hall talked about tossing trash into the surrounding darkness, but Chloe wouldn’t

hear of it.

After some thought, she decided every scrap could serve a purpose.

There was no point letting the compost bin sit there for nothing.

Besides, anything that came out of the compost bin became a system item, which meant it was technically clean.

The only letdown was that when Chloe searched for more Flame Fruit, she found only spoiled remnants. Not a single fresh one remained.

She gazed upward, but the thick canopy swallowed all clues. The source of the Flame Fruits remained a mystery.

Still, even spoiled fruit could find new life in the compost bin.

Chloe had 13 portions of rotten Flame Fruit left in her inventory.

She continued sorting through her supplies and found 20 pieces of Rare Obsidian, 21 pieces of Rare Flame Stone, and three pieces of Epic Flame Ore.

Shed gathered these stories along her journey. The scattered minerals hinted at a hidden deep beneath the Forbidden Forest.

Unfortunately, she’d never found an entrance. Even if she had, mining was a mystery to her. For now, she made do with whatever treasures the forest floor offered.

With the basics sorted, Chloe’s excitement grew as she turned to her favorite prize from this expedition: magic plants.

Ever since she read the “Arcane Botany Compendium,” she’d been itching to try her hand at growing them herself.

Magic plants were full of magical vitality. Some could continuously procice Arcane Materials. some could improve food, and some could even protect a home.

They reminded Chloe of the quirky, endearing plants in tower defense games like “Plants vs. Zombies.”

They felt magical, useful, and strangely cute.

According to the “Arcane Botany Compendium,” the most important factor in growing magic plants was not ordinary water, fertilizer, soil, or oxygen.

The key was whether the soil could provide enough elements and Magic while keeping corruption low.

If magic plants stayed in soil without enough elemental energy for too long, they would either die quickly or degrade back into ordinary plants.

Fortunately, Chloe’s knack for collecting stray bits of magical lore meant she actually knew where

to start.

The “Arcane Botany Compendium” had an entire section on creating suitable elemental conditions for magic plants.

The process was straightforward: use an elemental crystal as the heart of a Magid Rune array, inscribe a Growth Rune, and anchor it in the soil with a steady medium.

With this, plain dirt would transform into element-rich soil.

Luckily, Chloe had also read “Introduction to Magic Runes.”

Out of the five Magic Runes she had learned, one of them was the Growth Rune.

Now, all she lacked was a Rune Pen, a rune medium, and a Fire-Element Crystal Core.

All the magic plants she collected this time were fire-element plants.

Without a Fire-Element Crystal Core, they would eventually wither because the soil was not suited

For the magic medium, the Extraction Knowledge she’d bartered from Noble Scalper was finally about to pay off.

The easiest method was to squeeze juice from the finest fire-element plane and use it as the medium. The right tools wouldn’t be hard to come by, a. Chloe recalled the blueprint for a wooden extractor and knew CarpenterSoul could craft one for her.

With his skill, building it would be a breeze.

The real hurdle was the Rune Pen.

To craft a Rune Pen, she needed an Arcane Forge.

n fact, any tool capable of channeling Magic, whether a Rune Pen or an Arcane Tome, required an Arcane Forge.

Luckily, Chloe had already obtained the Arcane Forge Expansion Blueprint long ago.

she’d never put it to use. Building the Legendary Arcane Defense Tower had always taken priority. o the Arcane Forge kept getting pushed aside.
