I woke up the next morning and got ready.

After last night, I was still upset, and I wasn’t in the mood to be around him.

I had a feeling that today was going to be a long day. I got ready, and headed downstairs.

Dominic had already gone downstairs, and was chatting with Marcus, his brother and cousin. They were laughing and I acknowledged Giovanni and Enzo, walking over to where Valerie, Maxine and

Felicia were seated.

“Good morning, mommy!” Liam said as he rushed over to hug me.

“Good morning, Auntie Hailey!” Gianna greeted me, also coming to hug me.

“Morning babies, did you sleep well?”

They both nodded, and went back to coloring their book. I was glad that Liam has another kid of his age who he could play with at anytime. I rarely see him around these days.

He was always hanging out with Gianna.

And, I was grateful for that.

“Hey, Hailey.” Maxine greeted.

“Morning. Did you guys have breakfast yet?”

“No, not yet. We were still trying to think of something to cook. We weren’t sure if you were going to join us. We thought you were still asleep.” Valerie replied.

“Well, I’m up. So, how about I make everyone some breakfast?”

“Great! That would be amazing. Thank you, Hailey.” Felicia said.

I stood up, and went to the kitchen. What should I make?

Maybe pancakes?

Or eggs?

Bacon and sausages would be great too.

I decided on pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausages.

That would be great.

“Need any help?” I turned around to see Giovanni behind me.

“I’m okay. You can go and hang out with the others. I’ll handle it.” I said with a smile.

He cleared his throat, and I knew there was something else he wanted to say. “So… Dominic told me what happened.”

I arched a brow, “Oh? And, what exactly did he tell you?”

“You know, about his mistake, and the fight you guys had. I understand your frustration, but try not to hold it against him too much. He’s just worried about her, and it doesn’t justify standing you up on y’all’s dinner date. But you also need to understand that he’s trying his best to alo be there for his best friend. And he’s never going to pick her over you, he loves you Hailey.”

“Obviously, his loyalty lies more with her because how do you justify standing me up to get drunk with your best friend? Also ignoring my calls and text messages? How does that sound reasonable, Giovanni? He’s an adult, and has responsibilities. He has to know his priorities, and he needs to start choosing wisely. I love him, but that’s not fair on me. We’re a couple. If he can’t prioritize his time and commitments, how is our relationship supposed to work? He needs to learn to balance his life. This is the second time he’s stood me up for her, and it’s only the third day. Can you imagine what our married life would be like?”

“You know, sometimes the truth is harder to admit than a lie. I know, you’re upset, and you have every right to be. But, sometimes things aren’t black and white. It’s not that easy. Dominic has been there for her through thick and thin, and she needs him. She has no one, and it’s hard to watch. He knows the right thing to do is choose his fiancé over his best friend. And that’s never going to change. If he thought what he did was right, he wouldn’t be so broken, Hailey. He knows it’s wrong, but he’s a good person, and has a big heart. He wants to be there for everyone, and not let anyone down. Unfortunately, in this situation, there is no solution. But, at least he’s trying. All I’m asking is that you give him the benefit of the doubt, and forgive him. He’s just as broken as you are, and he loves you.”

“I understand that, and I’m not saying it’s an easy situation. I’m just asking him to make the right decision. I’m not expecting him to pick between his best friend and me. I’m just asking him to treat us both the same. It’s not fair for me to be the one who’s left out in the cold, while he gets drunk with her. I’m all about respect, and if he doesn’t give me that, then I have no choice but to draw the line. Because if I continue letting him get away with this, it’s going to continue, and that’s not something I want. I’m not saying break his friendship with her. I’m not asking him to choose. I’m just saying, don’t do this. We’re in a relationship, and there are boundaries that need to be respected. Especially when we’re getting married.”

“You know, Dom can hear you guys right now. You should have taken the conversation outside.”

Dominic said, looking at the two of us.

“Well, maybe he should have thought about that before standing me up.” I replied, not hiding my

frustration.

“Baby, it was an honest mistake, okay?” He came behind me and grabbed my waist before I could push him. “I’m sorry, okay? It’s never going to happen again. How do I make it up to you?”

“By learning from your mistakes, and making sure that doesn’t happen again.”

“Okay, I promise. I will not make the same mistake twice.”

“You better not.”

He hugged me tightly, and kissed my cheek. “Trust me, I love you. I would never do anything to hurt you. I promise.”

I sighed. “Alright, I believe you. But, don’t let it happen again, okay?”

“Don’t worry, it won’t. And, if it does, you can chop my balls off.

“What?”

“My balls. Chop them off.”

“Oh, I enjoy them a little too much. So, that won’t happen. Just don’t make the same mistake

twice.”

“Yuck, I guess my job here is done. The last thing I want to see is Dom’s balls. Or hear the two of you discuss them. Gross.”

“Hey, my balls are beautiful.”

“I beg to differ.” Giovanni laughed, as he walked away.

Dominic held me tighter, and nuzzled my neck. “You’re beautiful.”

“Stop.”

“What? You are.”

“Stop trying to butter me up, Dom.”

“I’m not. You are beautiful.”

“Alright, alright. That’s enough.”

“C’mon, let me finish.”

“No, we’re wasting time. I have to finish cooking breakfast.”
