CHAPTER HUNDRED-ELEVEN-2
The woman who was now his fiancé, the one who would marry him, and start a family.
It wasn’t fair.
Nothing was fair.
I was tired of being the third wheel. I was the one who met him first, yet, it seemed like he’d rather
spend his time with her.
“Here you are.” Dominic said, sitting next to me.
“Where else am I going to be?”
“True. So, you’re hiding from the rest of the world. I’m assuming you don’t want company. Are you okay? You seem distant, and that’s not normal for you.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’re not. I know you. You may think you’ve changed, but I haven’t. So, tell me, what’s wrong? What’s bothering you? Do you miss home? Because if you’re feeling homesick, I can book you the tickets right now, and head back.”
“Are you indirectly trying to tell me to leave?”
“What? No, of course not. You can stay as long as you want. You’re family. You know that. I’m just asking, because you don’t seem okay.”
“I’m not. And, yes, I do miss home. But, not my mother. I miss being amongst vampires where I can freely be who I am, and not have to pretend like a human. It’s exhausting. But, at the same time, it’s
not.”
“Why? What do you mean by that?”
“Being amongst vampires means that I don’t have to hide, and pretend to be someone else. But, on the other hand, it means that everyone is always looking for an opportunity to hurt you, or bring you down. They’re always backstabbing and playing games. And, the only thing that matters is power, wealth, and strength. You can’t trust anyone. Not even those who say they have your back.”
“You know, sometimes family isn’t always everything. It’s not everyone who gets that luck with family. But you can also create that love that you’re missing.”
“That’s easier said than done. Sometimes, family is the hardest to let go of. Especially when you don’t realize how much pain they’re causing you. Until the day it hits you, and you wake up and realize how much time has passed, and the damage they’ve caused. Family isn’t always what you

want, or what you think is right. Sometimes, they’re the ones who hurt you, and don’t realize it.”
“You’re right. Sometimes, family is the one who hurts the most, but that’s why you have friends and partners. You have to make sure that the person you choose is the right one, and someone who understands you. Someone who loves you and cares about you. Someone who’s willing to do everything for you. I think it’s finally time you open your heart for someone to genuinely love you, Trish. You can’t keep living the rest of your with the betrayals and the lies. It’s not healthy, and will
end up ruining you.”
“You sound just like the old Dominic. Except, you’ve changed. You’ve become someone I can’t recognize. And, maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe, if I can’t recognize you, then it’s easier to accept that you’re not the one I knew. Is it weird that I’m jealous that Hailey got the version of you
that I couldn’t have?”
“Yes, it’s weird. And, I don’t understand what you’re talking about. What do you mean ‘I can’t recognize you’? Are you implying that I’m no longer the man I was, and now, I’m someone else?”
“No. That’s not what I meant. I mean, couldn’t you see how I feel about you then and now? I feel weird that she was the one to get the version of you, which I could have had. Because, even though I was your best friend, it felt like I was the third wheel. The unwanted addition.”
He suddenly paused and stood to his feet, looking at me. “Tricia, are you saying what I’m thinking you’re saying? You’re not suggesting…”
I looked at him and took a deep breath, throwing the cigarette to the ground and smashing it with my sandals. “Are you trying to tell me that you never saw it coming? That you never had an inkling of a feeling, and how I felt about you?”
He stared at me.
“I was in love with you, Dominic. Thirteen years, and it’s never changed. I fell in love with the Dominic that was my best friend. The one who would never leave my side, and always put me before anyone else. I had hoped that you’d fall in love with me too, but as you know, that didn’t
happen.”
“Tricia, why are you telling me this? Why now, of all the times? I never saw you as anything more than my best friend. I’ve been in love with Hailey for a long time, and that’s not changing anytime soon. You have to-”
“No I don’t have to do anything, Dominic. Every single person has hurt my feelings, are you also going to break my heart, and betray me?”
“Betray? What are you talking about? I’ve never betrayed you. If anything, I’m the only one who
hasn’t.”

“Oh really? That’s funny because you’re the one who has betrayed me the most. You were supposed to be mine. You never gave me the chance to prove that we were meant to be. Instead, you gave her that chance. And, look at where it led you. I’ve lost the one person I truly loved, and that’s on you. Now, I’m all alone. Because, of you. All because, you’re in love with someone who doesn’t even deserve your love.”
“I’m so sorry, I can’t do this.” He shook his head, and walked away.
