After Rejection Divorced Luna Becomes A Famous Doctor (Hailey and Dominic) novel Chapter 145

CHAPTER HUNDRED TWENTYONE-2

CHAPTER HUNDRED-TWENTYONE-2

The night wore on, music drifting into the cool air. The laughter of my cousins, the animated chatter of my siblings, they were the soundtrack to our life, a life I was building with Hailey. I saw her talking to my sister, a genuine smile on her face as they sipped their wine. She was fitting in, seamlessly, like a missing piece that had finally been found. My chest swelled with a protective

pride.

I could proudly say I was the happiest I have ever been. I had a beautiful woman by my side, and a son who I loved more than life itself. And the promise of another baby, the thought was enough to make me want more, and I knew that was what I wanted.

Giovanni and Maxine were also having fun with their partners. We were finally getting to experience that love we always craved from our childhood, we were finally breaking the childhood stigma of growing up in an abusive environment and building our own families.

The fireworks started at midnight, painting the sky in a riot of color. Liam, who was on my lap, gasped in delight, his small face illuminated in the flashes of light. Gianna was with her mom, Felicia, pointing up at the sky, her own wonder a mirror of her cousin’s. I held Hailey’s free hand, her fingers intertwining with mine, a perfect fit.

“Happy New Year, Dom,” she whispered, her eyes sparkling more than the fireworks above. “Happy New Year, my love.” I leaned in, my lips finding hers. It was a soft kiss, full of unspoken promises and the quiet certainty of a future we would build together.

“Happy New Year!” our family roared around us, glasses clinking, hugs being exchanged. The fireworks ended, leaving behind a lingering smell of sulfur and the quiet hum of celebration. Slow music started playing from the speakers, a smooth, sultry beat that seemed to wrap around us.

“Dance with me.” I stood, holding out my hand to her. She took it, a playful smile on her lips.

I led her to the small, designated dance area near the pool. The water reflected the fairy lights, creating a magical, shimmering effect around us. I wrapped my hands around her waist, pulling her flush against me. Her arms came up to rest on my shoulders, her fingers toying with the hair at

my nape.

“I love this dress,” I murmured into her hair, my lips brushing her ear. “But I’d love it more on my bedroom floor.”

She chuckled, a low, throaty sound that vibrated through me. “Is that an invitation?”

“You know it is.” We swayed to the music, a slow, intimate rhythm that was just for us. The world, with all its noise and complications, faded away. It was just her and me, the beat of the music, and

the steady thrum of our hearts.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tricia again. She was standing by the bar, a fresh drink in her

hand, her gaze fixed on us. Her expression wasn’t just sad anymore; it was hard, brittle. I felt a

prickle of unease. This wasn’t just going to fade away.

I tightened my hold on Hailey, a silent acknowledgment of my own thoughts. “You okay?” she

asked, her perception as sharp as ever.

“Perfect,” I said, forcing a smile. “Just thinking about what I said earlier. About another baby.”

A genuine smile lit up her face. “Oh? And what were you thinking?”

“I was thinking it’s a damn good idea. I was thinking about a little girl with your eyes and your laugh. Or another little troublemaker just like Liam.”

Her eyes softened. It was partly true, but the last thing I wanted her to see is Tricia causing a rift between us, and I needed her to see that I was handling this.

“I like the way you think, Mr. King.” She stood on her tiptoes and kissed me, a sweet, gentle press of her lips. “We’ll talk more later. When there aren’t so many prying eyes.”

“Deal.”

The song ended, and another began, this one more upbeat. We separated, but I kept her hand in mine. “I’m going to get some water. Do you want anything?”

“No, I’m good. I’ll just go say hi to Maxine.”

I watched her walk over to my sister, the two of them immediately falling into an easy

conversation. Then, I made my way to the bar, needing a moment.

“What can I get you, Alpha?” the bartender asked.

“Just a glass of water.”

As I waited, I felt a presence beside me. I didn’t need to look to know who it was.

“Dominic.”

Tricia’s voice was tight, strained. I turned, my expression neutral. “Tricia.”

“Can we talk? Please? Just for a minute.” Her eyes were pleading, but there was a desperation there that set me on edge.

“We have nothing to talk about,” I said, keeping my voice low. “I thought I made myself clear.” “You did, but… it’s New Year’s. Can we just call a truce? For tonight? I miss my friend. Look, I know I
