CHAPTER HUNDRED TWENTYONE-1
CHAPTER HUNDRED-TWENTYONE-1
DOMINIC
It was the 31st night, and the whole house was lit up with candles and fairy lights. The poolside was decorated, and the patio had a huge bonfire.
The atmosphere was buzzing with laughter and music, and it was as if we were in our own little
world.
I watched as Hailey, with a glass of wine in her hand, sat by the poolside, her legs dangling in the water. She was wearing a beautiful, black, off shoulder dress that reached her mid thigh, and her
hair was in a messy bun.
She looked breathtaking.
I saw the way my family adored her. My brother, my sister, my cousin. They all loved her.
It was the validation I didn’t know I needed, but it felt good. It felt right. Seeing her with my family, laughing and having a good time, felt like home. She was my home.
The thought of spending the rest of my life with her, and starting a family, made my heart swell with joy. She was my other half, and I was hers. She always had a way of making people feel comfortable, and welcome. Was it the way she would tilt her head and listen intently to every word, or the way her laugh would ripple through the room, disarming even the most guarded? Or was it the quiet confidence she carried, an unspoken promise that she was a safe harbor in any storm? I couldn’t pinpoint it, but I knew its effect was profound.
Then I saw her.
Tricia.
She was in a white, two piece bikini, and she was holding a glass of champagne. Her long, blonde hair was in a high ponytail, and her makeup was perfect.
I had tried my possible best to avoid her ever since she confessed her feelings for me. It just totally changed the way I saw her, and not in a good way. I just couldn’t imagine someone I saw as my sister, thinking of me in that way. It was weird and awkward. I had to keep my distance. And the distance had been my defense, a careful, maintained space that was now being threatened by her deliberate approach.
She was walking towards Hailey, and a knot formed in my stomach. Hailey noticed her, and the smile on her face faltered.
I had to do something, before things got out of hand. I walked towards Hailey, and smashed my

lips on hers, pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss.
She was taken aback, but she responded, wrapping her arms around my neck.
It was a possessive kiss. A claim.
I wanted Tricia to know who I belonged to. And it wasn’t her.
I pulled away, and Hailey was breathless.
“What was that for?”
“Just a reminder. You’re mine.”
Tricia saw us, and she stopped. A look of hurt and jealousy flashed in her eyes, before she turned around and walked away.
As much as I didn’t want to have to go through this route to prove my point, it had to be done.
“You did that on purpose.”
I didn’t deny it. “I did. And I’d do it again.”
“Dom, you don’t have to do that. I trust you. We talked about this.”
“I know, but she needed to see it. To understand.”
“She does understand. She’s just hurt.”
