CHAPTER HUNDRED-TWENTYTHREE
TRICIA
Claim
The party was still in full swing when Dominic and Hailey left. I watched them go, a bitter taste in my mouth. He had chosen her. Again.
I finished my drink, the champagne burning a path down my throat. I needed another one. And another. I needed to numb the pain, to erase the image of his hands on her, the way he looked at her as if she was the only person in the world.
He was supposed to be mine. We were supposed to be together. It was destiny. I had known it
from the moment I met him, a cocky, arrogant boy with a heart of gold. I had waited for him,
patiently, biding my time, supporting him through every failed relationship, every bad decision.
And then she came along. Hailey. The quiet, unassuming woman who had somehow managed to
capture his heart. She has no right to him. She wasn’t like me. She wasn’t his equal. She was just
a… a phase. A temporary distraction.
But it had been years. And he was still with her. He had a child with her. They were engaged.
I couldn’t accept it. I wouldn’t.
“Another one,” I slurred, tapping my empty glass on the bar. The bartender gave me a look, but he
poured me another drink anyway. He knew better than to argue with me, especially when I was in
this mood.
I could feel Giovanni’s eyes on me from across the patio. He was watching me, his expression
unreadable. He knew. He had always known. He was Dominic’s shadow, his confidant, his
protector. And he saw me as a threat.
I didn’t care. Let him watch. Let them all watch. They would see. They would all see that Dominic
and I were meant to be.
“I think you’ve had enough.” Giovanni said, sliding in next to me.
I looked at him and rolled my eyes. “Last I checked, I’m not your pregnant girlfriend. So I can drink
as much as I want.”
His jaw tightened, but he didn’t rise to the bait. “What are your reasons for coming here, Tricia. Time and time again, you have seen that you aren’t needed here. Why do you try so hard? You know my brother wouldn’t leave Hailey.”
My grip on the glass tightened. “You don’t know anything about what we have, Giovanni.”

Claim
“I know enough.” He said, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous level. “I know that he loves her. I
know that he would do anything for her. And I know that if you keep pushing, you’re going to find
out just how far he’s willing to go to protect her.”
“Are you sure you’re speaking for your brother or yourself, huh? Scared that with one touch, I will get you in my bed once more, with you begging for more.” I said, a cruel smile playing on my lips. Giovanni and I had a history. A brief, stupid fling that ended as quickly as it started. He was a mistake, a rebound from someone else I couldn’t have. He was the King brother I had to settle for.
He paled, and I knew I had hit a nerve. “That was a long time ago, Tricia. And it was a mistake. One that I have no intention of repeating.”
“Is that so?” I leaned in closer, my breath warm against his ear. “I seem to recall you enjoying it. A
lot.”
He grabbed my arm, his grip like a vice. “Stay away from my brother, Tricia. And stay away from me. We both want nothing to do with you. We have beautiful partners who we love. Focus on your life, and leave us to ours.”
“I will leave you alone when Dominic leaves her and comes back to me. He is my soulmate.”
“You’re delusional.” He said, letting go of my arm as if I had burned him. “He’s not your soulmate. He’s not your anything. And he never will be. The sooner you start taking your own life more seriously, the better it would be for you.”
I watched him walk away, my body trembling with a mixture of anger and frustration. How dare he? How dare he lecture me about my life? He didn’t know anything. He didn’t know the connection Dominic and I shared. He didn’t know anything.
I downed the rest of my drink, the alcohol doing little to quench the fire burning inside me. I needed to get out of here. I needed to clear my head.
I stumbled away from the bar, my vision blurry. The world around me was a swirl of lights and sounds, a chaotic mess of laughter and music. I pushed my way through the crowd, ignoring the concerned looks from the other guests.
was hungry. My fangs ached badly. All I could hear was the pumping of every single heart at the party. And all I could think about was sinking my fangs into someone’s neck. I had a choice. I could either go inside and feed on the blood bags I had in my fridge, or I could stay here and feed on one of these pathetic humans.
I had to keep my cool. I was at a party hosted by werewolves. I couldn’t afford to lose control. Not
here. Not now.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I needed to get inside. I needed to feed. But just as I was about to step inside, i heard a hiss for someone as he cradled his injured hand.
I saw him. He was standing by the bonfire, a handsome stranger with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. My eyes zoned in on the blood dripping from his hand, and the sweet fresh meta smell hit my
nose.
