CHAPTER HUNDRED-TWENTYFOUR

TRICIA

I heard a rustle in the bushes, and I tensed, my senses on high alert. The scent was the same. The one from the party. The one that had almost made me lose control.

A figure emerged from the shadows. It was him. The handsome stranger from the bonfire.

“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice a deep, smooth baritone.

He was human.

He stepped closer, and I could see the blood still glistening on his hand. The scent was overwhelming, a symphony of iron and life. I had to get away from him.

“I’m fine,” I said, my voice strained. “You should go back to the party.”

“Not until I know you’re okay,” he insisted, taking another step closer. “You took off like you’d seen a

ghost.”

“I’m not the one who’s bleeding, am I?” I retorted, my eyes fixed on the cut on his hand. A drop of blood welled up, a perfect ruby sphere, before tracing a path down his finger.

My throat burned. My fangs ached. I could almost taste it.

He followed my gaze, a look of understanding dawning on his face. “Ah,” he said. “This.” He held up his hand. “Just a little accident. Nothing to worry about.”

But I was worried. I was terrified. I could feel the predator in me stirring, the urge to pounce, to sink my fangs into his flesh and drink my fill.

I took a step back, my hands clenched into fists. “You should leave. Now.”

He didn’t move. He just stood there, watching me with those piercing blue eyes. He wasn’t scared.

He was curious.

“You’re not like the others, are you?” he said.

“What others?” I snapped, my patience wearing thin.

“The werewolves.”

My blood ran cold. How did he know? Was he a hunter? Was he here to expose us?

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied, my heart pounding in my chest.

He smiled, a slow, knowing smile that did nothing to ease my nerves. “Oh, I think you do. Well, you

shouldn’t feel threatened by me. My father is a good friend of Dominic, they are close business partners. So, see? I’m a friend.”

“And why would I be threatened by you? If you haven’t noticed, I’m human too,” I said, my voice laced with sarcasm. The lie came out easily, a well practiced defense mechanism.

He chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that vibrated through me. “You’re a terrible liar, you know that?” He took another step closer, and I could feel the heat radiating from his body.

“I don’t know what you are, but you’re definitely not human.” He said with confidence. At least he had a brain. The blood of those with higher IQs were always the sweetest.

“Which is more reason for you to leave here now. You have no idea what I’m capable of doing to

you.”

“I’m not afraid of you.”

smirked, “Well, you should be.” I lunged at him, my fangs bared, a snarl ripping from my throat. I was faster than him, stronger. He didn’t see it coming, his eyes widening in surprise as I slammed

him against the tree.

My fangs grazed his neck, a hairsbreadth away from sinking into his skin. I could feel his pulse thrumming against my lips, a frantic, wild rhythm. The scent of his blood was overwhelming, a siren’s call that was impossible to resist.

1 buried my face in the crook of his neck, my teeth aching with the need to bite, to taste, to consume. I could feel my control slipping, the humanity I clung to fading away, replaced by the raw,

primal instinct of the vampire.

He didn’t struggle. He didn’t cry out. He just stood there, perfectly still, his heart beating a steady,

calm rhythm against my lips.

I could sense the fear in his blood. I loved it when they were scared. It made the blood taste better.

Without hesitation, I sant my fangs into the soft flesh of his neck.

The blood exploded in my mouth, a warm, coppery torrent that was both familiar and intoxicatingly new. It was richer, more complex than any I had ever tasted. It was like drinking

liquid fire, a heady, intoxicating rush that sent a jolt of pure pleasure through me.

I drank deeply, my body humming with a renewed energy. He struggled, but it was too late. I was

too strong.

I could feel him weaken, his body going limp in my arms. His heart rate slowed, the frantic thrum

fading to a weak, erratic flutter. I should have stopped. I knew I should have stopped. But the thirst

was a raging fire, and I was powerless to resist its pull.

I pulled away, my lips stained with his blood. I looked at him, his face pale, his eyes closed. No pulse, no heartbeat.

He was dead.

I had killed him.

Clam

Panic, cold and sharp, pierced through the fog of my bloodlust. What had I done? I hadn’t meant to

kill him. I just wanted to taste, to feed.

I wouldn’t have minded, if he hadn’t mentioned earlier that his father was close to Dominic.

What have I done?

quickly scanned the area to make sure no one had seen me. The garden was empty, the sounds of the party a distant, muffled hum. I was safe. For now.

I had to get rid of the body. I couldn’t leave him here. If Dominic found out, if anyone found out, I
