After Rejection Divorced Luna Becomes A Famous Doctor (Hailey and Dominic) novel Chapter 15

It was finally my lunch break and Valerie and I planned on going to the nearby restaurant downtown for

lunch. I could already feel the tension leave my shoulders as I imagined sitting at the small corner table with her, enjoying a hot meal, and talking about anything other than work.

When we entered the restaurant, it was crowded, which was normal. The place had become a staple in the area, offering delicious meals and good coffee at an affordable price.

The hostess was a girl I recognized, as I’d like to say Valerie and I were a regular in the place, but the truth is, I had been a regular before ever meeting her. She was a student at the local university, and she greeted

us with a familiar smile.

Hey ladies, she greeted, grabbing two menus and leading us towards our usual spot.

Valerie and I followed after her, going to seat at our favorite spot, a small, secluded table next to a

window, overlooking the street.

We sat and placed our orders, then relaxed back against the wooden seats. We had just had a particularly rough day, so being able to sit down and catch our breaths was a relief.

So, how did it go after our little scene this morning?Valerie asked, leaning closer and lowering her voice.

Good, actually,I nodded. It was kind of satisfying watching them shut their mouths for once. And it definitely sent a clear message. I think people are finally starting to realize that the rumors about me aren’t going anywhere. Not when I can defend myself like that. I just don’t understand why people think the best way to make themselves feel better is by tearing someone else down. It’s pathetic, honestly.

Valerie’s eyes narrowed as she sighed. Yeah, and they’re too cowardly to do it to your face. I wish we could find out who keeps spreading the rumors in the first place. The way they just spread like wildfire, there’s gotta be a few people involved. And I’m glad you finally grew the balls to confront them about it, and in the way I would’ve wanted. Because trust me, left for me, would’ve punched them in the face,

consequences be damned.

Trust me, I was one step away from it. But then you know, my conscious was yelling at me, saying Hailey, you’ve been a single mother for five years. Can you afford to lose this job and risk going to jail for beating

up your coworkers?I said, making her laugh.

God, we need a raise,” she groaned. I swear, I’ve never been more tired than these past few days.

I hear you,I agreed. Speaking of which, any updates on that date you went on last week?

Valerie had told me about how her sister set her up on a date with some guy when she went home, and

she had come back the next day rambling about how much fun it had been.

She shook her head, and I already knew by her expression that there wasn’t a happy ending.

Yeah, it was a bust, she said, sighing. Turns out, he was an arrogant asshole. He’s the type of guy that

you like in person. Can you believe ever since I got back here, he hasn’t called to check up on me, nor did he ask for a second date. What a d**k. Like, what kind of idiot turns down a woman like me? Honestly.

I laughed, nodding. Men. They’re not worth it. You’ll find a better one. I swear, the minute you stop looking, they’ll be right around the corner.

She laughed along, and I was glad to see her smiling again. Well enough about me, boo. Don’t you think it’s high time you got back into the dating game too? You have been a single mother for a while now, and it’s not like I’m asking you to marry the next guy you meet. Just give it a chance, will you?

I

You sound like my mom would,” I grumbled, shaking my head. Bless her soul. I thought, sadly.

Since your mom isn’t here anymore to do that. I’m going to do what she would’ve wanted. Get back out

there, Hailey. You’re gorgeous. And men would line up just to get a piece of you. Trust me. The right guy is waiting for

you out there. You just have to give them a chance.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN2

I have, remember? It didn’t end well. It never does,I pointed out, feeling that old dread settle inside me. I

was an hardcore lover girl in the past and, where did it get me? Broken hearted, rejected, pregnant and

divorced.

Don’t let one bad egg ruin it for the rest of the good men out there, she teased. You’ve got the looks, the

brains, the charm, and the personality. All you need now is a man who can appreciate those. A man who is not afraid to tell the whole world you’re his. Come on, Hailey. Please?

Fine. I’ll think about it,I agreed, not wanting to get into an argument.

But as much as I knew Valerie meant well, it was a conversation I was done having. Because the truth

was, no matter what she said, I had no interest in a relationship. Not anymore.

Maybe I never really did.

And even though it was true that I sometimes craved the company, the companionship, the intimacy, I knew the reality of dating in this day and age.

It wasn’t like the movies. You didn’t find love when you least expected it, and you didn’t have the fairytale

romance. Not for someone like me, at least.

Love, marriage, a happy ending, it wasn’t something I was built for. My son, my career, and my health,

those were the only priorities. And I was fine with that.

I’d learned the hard way what it meant to fall too deep, and I had no desire to dive into that pit again. It

was just too hard, and not worth the risk.

And if that meant my only relationship was the one I had with my son, then so be it. Liam was the only

love I needed.

Ladies, sorry for the wait, the waitress interrupted our conversation, setting the plates down in front of

  1. us. Enjoy.

I smiled, thanking her, and dug in.

My food was perfect, as always. Valerie and I chatted while we ate, and I was glad that the conversation

had moved away from the subject of dating.

The doorbell rang, signaling the arrival of a new customer, and when I looked up to see who it was, a gasp escaped my lips and a feeling of dread settled inside my stomach.

Valerie glanced at me, noticing the change in my mood. What’s wrong?

I swallowed hard, unable to take my eyes off him, thankfully, he hasn’t sighted me just yet. Him. It’s him.

Valerie looked confused, Him, who?

Giovanni. My ex husband’s brother. He’s here. Again. We need to leave, Val. Now.

CHAPTERERCILIN 2

Wait, holup. I want to see what this bastard looks like, she said, craning her neck. Is he the one with the grey suit? With the black hair and a beard?

I didn’t answer.

My whole body was trembling with anger’now. Was he stalking me? Why was he still in the country? Did Dominic send him?

And was he here alone? Or was Dominic here with him?

Suddenly, the restaurant felt too small, too public, too open. I needed to get out of there, right then and there.

I could see Valerie trying to get a good look at him, but I reached over and grabbed her wrist, pulling her

closer.

Holy shit, you didn’t tell me just how sexy he was,she murmured. He’s fucking gorgeous, Hailey.”

I rolled my eyes, not believing that Valerie was able to make a situation like this so much worse. Can you

not ogle my exhusband’s brother, please? It’s already bad enough that he looks just like his brother.

Hey, I’m only human, she said defensively. Now I see why you were head over heels with his brother. If

he looks like this, I can only imagine what your ex must have looked like.”

I scoffed, Well, I wouldn’t know, considering the bastard had the nerve to divorce me. Let’s go, please.

Valerie nodded, Let’s just go. If he hasn’t seen us yet, then there’s no reason for us to stay. Let’s head back

to the hospital. I’m sure there’s a lot of work to be done.

Just as we were about to rise, someone approached the table.

I closed my eyes, knowing exactly who it was.

Well, hello, Hailey,Giovanni’s voice rang out, sending shivers down my spine.

I opened my eyes, glaring at him. What the fuck do you want, Giovanni? Aren’t you supposed to be out of the country already? What, did Dominic send you to spy on me again? Tell him he’s a fucking creep. I

swear, if I catch him or any of his minions following me ever again, I’m going to the police. This is

harassment, and I won’t stand for it.

Giovanni smirked, his eyes trailing over my best friend’s body slowly, making her blush.
