CHAPTER HUNDRED-THIRTY

TRICIA

“What do you want from me?” I demanded, trying to keep my cool.

“Two million. Cash. Should be provided before the end of this week, and we can lay low for now.

Your secret is safe with me, until you fail to give me what I want. Then these pictures go to Dominic’s Pack, the human police, and vampire council. I’m sure they’d love a story like this.” He

said, and the line went dead.

I stared at my phone, my mind reeling. Two million? Where the hell was I supposed to get that kind

of money?

The thing was, no one knew one of the reasons I was back to the country was because of I had lost my career. My job. My modelling contract was cancelled quietly by my agency, because I had almost killed one of my managers.

That was the only option except jail. They kept everything low and decided to give me an amount of money to be on my way, to start over somewhere else and never go back. That was where I got the money to pay my rent for a few months and sustain myself until I found another job, which I didn’t find because I had been so focused on getting Dominic back. I was broke. I had nothing.

Panic set in, a cold, creeping dread that coiled in my stomach. My mouth opened in a silent

scream as I stared at my phone. My carefully constructed plan to escape was crumbling before my very eyes. I thought I had gotten away with it. I thought I was safe.

I was wrong.

Someone knew. Someone had seen everything.

The phone call replayed in my mind, the distorted voice, the cold, calculating threat. Two million. I

didn’t have it.

I didn’t know who it was. They have been so careful, muffling their voice with a high quality software that I couldn’t even trace. It felt like this was my karma. For all the bad things I’ve done.

My hands were still shaking as I scrolled through the pictures again. They were high quality, taken from different angles. It was like the person was right there with me, invisible. A ghost.

I was trapped. There was nowhere to run. This was not how it was supposed to happen. Adrian was a mistake. A moment of weakness. I hadn’t fed in weeks, and the party, the noise, the smell of all that human blood… it was too much. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He had followed me to the garden, I warned him severally to leave, that I was dangerous, but he

didn’t listen. He laughed, thinking it was some kind of game. And then I lost control. The hunger was a beast, a ravenous monster that consumed me from the inside out. And for a few moments, I

was no longer Tricia. I was just a predator.

I enjoyed it, a moment of fast response sh of adrenaline that was slowly turning into regret. I had to do something, and I had to do it fast. If those pictures got out, my life would be over. And I wasn’t just talking about jail. I was talking about a slow, painful death at the hands of Dominic’s pack. Or worse, the Vampire Council. They didn’t take kindly to the ripper who exposed their kind.

I had to get that money.

I started making calls, my mind racing. I called every contact I had, every rich friend, every shady dealer I knew from my past. But it was no use. No one was willing to lend me that kind of money,

not without collateral that I didn’t have.

I was desperate. I was running out of options.

And then, a thought crossed my mind. A dark, twisted idea that made my stomach churn. It was a long shot, a dangerous gamble, but it was the only one I had left.

It was risky. But what other choice did I have?

She would never find out. I just had to get my hands on that thing that would provide the money.

My mother had too many expensive things, jewelry from her late husband that he would never have imagined would be my escape route. She had everything she needed. She had the money, she had the power, but she refused to help me. So I was going to help myself.

I walked out of the study, my heart pounding in my chest. I went to her bedroom, the door was slightly ajar, and I could hear her on the phone, laughing.
