hat were the odds?
If I didn’t think he was stalking before, I definitely believed it now.
He was everywhere.
In the same restaurant.
At the hospital.
Now, here?
I didn’t think the chances were possible, but there was no mistaking the voice.
“At this point, you’re really a stalker. Do you need help? I know a lot of good psychiatrists,” I said, glaring at
him.
Giovanni laughed, “Trust me, Hailey. Seeing you isn’t something I planned, and if I could, I would keep away from
you. But, the world works in mysterious ways. Maybe there’s something I’m supposed to find out.”

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN–2
What was he implying?
“You need to leave, Giovanni. Now. I’m done. I’m done with your games. You can’t keep appearing everywhere I go. That’s called harassment.”
I had thought meeting Giovanni was not so bad as meeting his brother who was the main problem, but
now I realize he was just as problematic, because he wouldn’t leave me alone.
And now, I was very close to my years long secret being exposed. And I was panicking. Bad.
My phone hovered around my hand as I tried to find a discreet way of texting Valerie to not allow Liam to
come near us.
“Why do you need me to leave so badly, huh? Is there something you’re hiding? Something I need to
know?” He asked, but the thing is, he didn’t look curious, he looked like he knew something.
He had a glint in his eyes, and I knew that it wouldn’t be good if he found out.
“There’s nothing for you to know,” I said simply, not allowing the fear show.
“Hailey, Hailey, Hailey. Don’t lie to me. You’re not good at it. You can fool my brother, but you can’t fool me. You think I would just come, bump into my brother’s ex wife and not get a research done on you?”
I froze.
“So, what? You found out that I’m a single mom. So what?”
“Ah, yes, that is the part I’m curious about. I thought it was weird when the reports said you’re a single mom, but what got me even more is the age of your child. He’s around five, is he not?”
I didn’t answer.
He knew. Of course, he knew.
Just like his goddamned brother who doesn’t know how to get out of people’s business. They were known for always interfering, and I hated that they had the power and influence to do so.
And now, with the same power and money, he was able to find out a secret I fought so hard for years to
hide. And in just one day, he was able to find out.
“He’s Dominic’s, isn’t he?” He asked,
“Never. My son will never be a King. He’s mine. He’s an Anderson and that’s what he’ll always be. Leave us
alone. Your brother has ruined enough lives, I’m not letting you ruin this one.”
“I’m not here to ruin anyone’s life. I was just very curious what you were hiding so bad that you always brought this fear to your eyes whenever you saw me. I expected something bad when I had someone look into your past, but I didn’t expect something as big as a child.”

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
“I’m not going to ask you again. Leave,” I said through clenched teeth.
“I’m not leaving, not until I see him. Not until you tell me the truth. How did you hide it? How did my family
not know? Was that why my brother divorced you? Did you even tell him you were pregnant? Or was that his punishment for leaving you? A life away from his son? His heir? You of all people should know that the Kings don’t play when it comes to a matter that concerns blood. So, Hailey, what will it be?”
I couldn’t answer, because my brain was working overtime. I knew, the minute he left, he would tell
Dominic. There was no way he was keeping this a secret.
I wouldn’t expect him too. He was a King after all, and Kings always had a soft spot for the ones of their
blood.
Liam was a King.
He was Dominic’s son.
Dominic would want him.
And he wouldn’t stop at anything until he had him.
I couldn’t allow that.
I couldn’t let him ruin my son’s life.
I had fought so hard to build him a new life, one far away from his father and the toxic environment of the
Kings.
A life where he didn’t have to worry about his name and the expectations it carried.
I would die before I let him ruin that.
“You still don’t wanna talk? I like you, Hailey, but I’m afraid you’re forcing my hand. I’ve given you a choice, and now, you’re leaving me with none.”
Giovanni reached into his pocket and took out his phone, dialing a number.
I had no doubt who it was.
“Wait-!” I yelled, reaching out to grab the phone and quickly ended the call. “You want to know the truth, right? Okay! You’ve got me! He’s Dominic’s son! My son is a King! Are you happy?”
He was silent.
Right on cue, Liam and Valerie obliviously ran towards us, Liam yelling happily, “Mom! Mom! Mommy!”
His shirt was off and his entire body was soaked with water, a big grin on his face as he hugged me,
oblivious to the tension between Giovanni and I.
“Look, Mom, look,” he said, showing me the toy boat I had gotten him for his birthday.
Valerie who has now noticed Giovanni went pale as she looked from me to him, and gave me a guilty look, but I shook my head.

NEVENTIIN
It wasn’t her fault. There’s no way she would have known that Giovanni was here.
Giovanni hasn’t said a word since they arrived. His eyes focused on Liam as he took him all in, a myriad of emotions passing through his face, but I couldn’t read a single one.
Liam who didn’t understand the tense atmosphere between me and the unfamiliar man, smiled brightly, “Hello, mister. Are you mom’s friend?”
Giovanni’s eyes snapped towards Liam, and he gave him a small smile, “I am. What’s your name?”
“I’m Liam! Nice to meet you!”
“Nice to meet you too, Liam. I’m your Uncle Giovanni,” he introduced, a hint of fondness in his voice.
Liam gasped, “Uncle? You’re my uncle? Wow! How did you find us?”
“I have my ways, kid,” Giovanni said. “Say, Liam, how old are you?”
“Five!”
“Five, huh? Do you know who your daddy is?”
“My daddy?” Liam repeated. “Yeah, he’s dead. He died when I was born. Mommy says he loved me, and he’s watching over me. One day, he’s coming back.”
That was not a complete lie. Dominic was dead to me. To him, he’s just a name. Not a person.
“Oh, is that so?”
“Yeah. But, it’s okay. Mommy and Aunt Valerie always take care of me. And one day, when I’m big and strong, I’m gonna protect them too. That’s my dream!”
“Uhm, Liam? Come, let’s go and wash up, okay?” Valerie suggested, not wanting him to stay longer in the
tense atmosphere.
“Okay, Auntie Val. I’ll see you later, Uncle Giovanni.”
“See ya,” he muttered.
The two left, and silence stretched between us, until it became unbearable.
7-”
“He’s definitely his father’s son. That family crescent tattoo is unmistakable. The resemblance with my brother? Uncanny. He’s a King and you’ve made the biggest mistake keeping him from Dominic for five years, Hailey. A grave mistake.” He said, shaking his head in disbelief as he looked at Liam’s retreating figure.
And I knew I was fucked.
