CHAPTER HUNDRED-FORTYONE-1
HAILEY
Dominic let out a long, shaky breath, his shoulders slumping in defeat. He looked at me, his eyes
filled with a pain so deep it took my breath away.
“He’s going to start a war,” I said, my voice a choked whisper.
Dominic nodded, his jaw tight. “He’s going to try. And he has every right to be angry. I would be too
if I were in his shoes. I have a son too. I can’t imagine losing Liam. I can’t imagine the pain he’s going through right now.”
He was right. Johnathan had a right to be angry, but that didn’t make it any less terrifying. A war between the werewolves and the humans would be a bloodbath, a massacre. And we were right in
the middle of it.
It wasn’t because we were scared of humans, it was because of what the werewolves were capable of doing to humans. It was because if this went public, the humans wouldn’t know how to differentiate us from the monsters that they read in their story books.
And werewolves will fight back. Because we were innocent.
“This is a nightmare,” I said, my voice trembling.
Dominic pulled me into his arms, holding me tight. “I know,” he whispered. “But we will get through
this. Together.”
I buried my face in his chest, the steady beat of his heart a small comfort in the chaos. I wanted to believe him, I wanted to believe that we could get through this, but a part of me knew that this was only the beginning. That the storm was just starting to gather on the horizon, and we were right in
its path.
“Hailey,” Dominic said, his voice a low rumble. “You have to leave the pack. Take Liam and go. Just
for a little while. Until things calm down.”
I pulled away from him, my eyes wide with shock. “What? No! I’m not leaving you! I’m not leaving our family! We said we would do this together!”
“I know, but I don’t want you two to be caught in the crossfire. This is my mess, my responsibility. I can’t let anything happen to you or Liam. I can’t lose you. I won’t.” he said, his voice firm, but I could
see the fear in his eyes. He was scared. He was scared for me, for our son. He was scared of
losing us.
I shook my head firmly. “No. I will not leave you. Not now. I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying right

here with you. We’re a family. We face this together.”

I knew that my words were a reflection of what he wanted to hear, but also what he needed to hear. He was the Alpha, the leader of our pack, but he was also a man. A man who was scared of losing the people he loved.
I was not going to let him face this alone. We were in this together.
He sighed, running his fingers through his hair, a gesture of frustration and helplessness. He was a strong man, a powerful leader, but he was also a man who was carrying the burden of the world on his shoulders.
“Okay,” he finally said, his voice a quiet surrender. “Okay. We’ll face this together.”
I smiled, a small, sad smile. He was letting me stay. He was letting me share the burden. And that made all the difference.
“Good,” I said, my voice a little stronger now. “Now, what’s our next move?”
“We wait for the Council,” he said, his voice grim. “And we pray that they see reason. That they see we’re not the monsters they think we are.”
