CHAPTER HUNDRED-FIFTYTWO-1
HAILEY
The hot flash of anger I felt at the sight of her was unlike anything I’ve felt in a long time. She was
standing in the doorway of my office, a smirk on her face, a designer bag slung over her shoulder. She looked exactly the same, perfectly manicured, expensively dressed, and radiating an aura of entitled malice.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded, my voice low and tight. “You’re not welcome on this territory.”
Yasmine laughed, a light, tinkling sound that scraped against my nerves. “Oh, Hailey. Always so dramatic. Can’t a girl visit an old friend?”
“We’re not friends,” I bit out, standing up. The space behind my desk felt flimsy, a poor defense against the venom she brought into the room. “You have thirty seconds to get out of my sight before I drag you out by your hair.”
She raised a perfectly sculpted eyebrow, unfazed. “Such hostility. And here I came to deliver some important news. A little birdy told me there’s been a new addition to the Royal Pack. A baby, is it? A boy.”
Every muscle in my body went rigid. My protective instincts, honed and sharpened by years of pack life, flared to life. “Don’t you dare say his name I warned.
“Phoenix, isn’t it?” she continued, her smirk widening. “A fitting name for a child born from ashes. Pity. Such a fragile little thing to have so many enemies. So many people who would love to see that fire snuffed out before it even really begins.”
The threat was clear, unmistakable, and delivered with the casual cruelty of a queen swatting a fly. It wasn’t just a threat against the baby. It was a threat against Valerie, against Giovanni, against Dominic, against every single person I loved. Against the peace we had so painstakingly built.
I moved so fast I didn’t even register the decision. One second I was behind my desk, the next I had her pinned against the doorframe, my forearm pressed against her throat. The cheap perfume she wore was cloying, suffocating.
“Listen to me, you psychotic bitch,” I snarled, my face inches from hers. My wolf was right there at the surface, a feral presence in my mind. “You will never come near my family again. You will never speak of that child. If I even smell you on this territory again, I will not hesitate to end you. Do you understand me?”
Her eyes widened, a flicker of genuine fear finally breaking through her carefully constructed facade. She couldn’t speak, could only manage a weak nod against the pressure of my arm.

Satisfied, I released her with a shove, sending her stumbling back into the hallway. She clutched at
her throat, gasping for air, but the smirk was gone, replaced by a look of pure, unadulterated
hatred.
“You’ll regret this,” she rasped, her voice hoarse. “You will pay for taking every single thing I love
away from me! I lost my mother because of you, I lost my finance and I lost my husband, you
husband snatching witch!”
“I’m not the one who thought it was a wise idea to bewitch someone else’s husband just because
you possess some lame powers and think you can having all to yourself for the rest of your life?
For someone who was publicly humiliated, you sure still have no shame, Yasmine. Did you really
think your happiness with my mate was going to last knowing the way you even got him in the first
place? I hope it was worth it, now you’ve lost everything. Get out.”
She opened her mouth to retort, but I held up a hand. “One more word and I’m calling security. I’m
sure the press would love to get a photo of the infamous Yasmine being dragged out of a hospital in handcuffs and thrown off the pack.”
Her face went white. Without another word, she turned and fled, her expensive heels clicking on
the linoleum floor. I watched her go, my heart hammering against my ribs, my hands shaking with
