CHAPTER HUNDRED-SIXTYFOUR-1
VALERIE
Hailey’s face hardened, her eyes narrowing to dangerous slits. “What? How? When?”
“Just now. She came with flowers. Acting all concerned and sympathetic.”
“What did she say?” Hailey asked, her voice tight.
“She said it was a tragic accident. She said it was a drunk driver. She said she was sorry.”
Hailey’s eyes widened. She didn’t need to say anything. I knew she understood.
“It was her,” I said, my voice breaking. “I know it was her, Hailey. The way she looked at me, the way
she smiled. She was enjoying it. She was enjoying my pain.”
Hailey didn’t hesitate. She pulled me into a tight hug, her arms wrapping around me and Phoenix. “I
know,” she said, her voice a low, fierce whisper. “I believe you. We knew it from the start. And I’m so
sorry you had to face her alone.”
“I was so scared, Hailey,” I confessed, my voice muffled against her shoulder. “I was so scared she
would hurt Phoenix.”
“She wouldn’t have dared,” Hailey said, her voice filled with a cold, deadly promise. “I would have
torn her throat out before she even laid a finger on him.”
We stood there for a moment, a silent understanding passing between us. Then Hailey pulled
back, her face a mask of grim determination.
“We need to tell Dominic,” she said. “Now.”
We found him in the hospital cafeteria, staring into a cup of cold coffee, a storm cloud of grief and
guilt hanging over him. He looked up as we approached, his expression softening when he saw
Phoenix, then hardening again when he saw the look on our faces.
“What is it?” he asked, his voice rough.
“Yasmine was here,” I said, my voice steady now, fueled by a cold, clear rage.
Dominic’s jaw tightened, the muscle in his cheek twitching. “She what?”
“She came to Giovanni’s room. Pretended to be sorry. Pretended to care,” I said, my hands
clenching into fists at my sides. “It was her, Dominic. I know it was her. She came to check on her
work. To make sure he was dead.”
Dominic’s eyes darkened, a flicker of the Alpha’s fury in their depths. “Did she say anything? Did she
threaten you?”

“Not in so many words,” I said. “But it was in her eyes. She was enjoying it. She was enjoying my
pain.”
Dominic stood up, his chair scraping against the linoleum floor. He started pacing, a caged animal,
his movements sharp and agitated.
“I should have known,” he growled, his hands running through his hair. “I should have done
something. I should have seen this coming.”
“This isn’t your fault, Dominic,” Hailey said, her voice firm. “This is her fault. And she’s not going to get away with it.”
“What can we do?” he asked, his frustration palpable. “We have no proof. The police think it’s a hit and run. The pack is still loyal to her, or at least too scared to cross her. We have nothing.”
“We have me,” I said, my voice quiet but resolute. “I saw her. I heard her. I know it was her. And I’m
going to prove it.”
Dominic stopped pacing and looked at me, his expression a mixture of pride and concern. “How?”
“I don’t know yet, I admitted. “But I’ll find a way.”
