CHAPTER HUNDRED-SIXTYSIX-1

HAILEY

The weeks flew by so fast and suddenly, it was my bachelorette night. Everything was going well. Giovanni had recovered and was back from the hospital, but the doctors said he was still in a state

of shock so he still can’t remember the details from the accident.

He had moments of clarity now, but he was still weak, easily fatigued. The memory was a ghost in the back of his mind, a shadow he couldn’t quite grasp. He had a few broken ribcages and other injuries he had sustained from the accident but he was healing fast and the doctor said that the werewolf gene and a little bit of rest is helping him heal fast.

The doctors said it was a miracle he survived, but I knew it was more than that. It was love. It was sheer, stubborn will. He had a family to come back to. A son to raise. And he wasn’t about to let a reckless driver, or a scheming, vengeful exwife, take that away from him.

Giovanni has proved the doctors wrong in the past couple of weeks and he was doing better than expected. He was sitting up in bed now, reading a book, a faint smile on his face when I walked in. I was already dressed for my bachelorette party, a tight, red dress that hugged my curves in all the

right places.

“Hey,” I said, my voice a little too bright. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m feeling better,” he said, his voice a little raspy from disuse, but stronger than it had been.

“Ready to get out of this bed and back to my life.”

“That’s what I like to hear,” I said, a genuine smile on my face. “We all miss you. Especially Valerie

and Phoenix. They miss you more than you can ever imagine. They will be shocked to see you up and running.” Giovanni was discharged earlier today and I hadn’t told Valerie and Dominic else yet,

because we wanted it to be a surprise. We were both going togo and crash my bachelorette party.

I didn’t want him to miss out on the fun.

“That’s the plan,” he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Now, are you ready to go crash your own

party?”

I laughed, the sound echoing in the quiet room. “Absolutely. Let’s go show them what we’re made

of.”

We arrived at the club, the music a pulsating beat that vibrated through the floor, the air thick with

the scent of sweat and perfume. The place was packed, a sea of bodies writhing on the dance

floor, the lights strobing in a dizzying array of colors

I saw Valerie immediately, her bright red hair a beacon in the crowd. The moment her eyes met

mine, then Giovanni, they widened in shock. Her jaw dropped, and for a second, she just stared,

unable to process what she was seeing. Then, a scream of pure joy tore from her throat, and she

was running, weaving through the crowd, her face a beautiful, tear streaked mess.

“Giovanni!” she cried, throwing herself into his arms

He caught her, his arms wrapping around her, holding her close. “I’m here,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “I’m here, baby.”

I watched them, my heart swelling with a warmth that had nothing to do with the alcohol or the flashing lights. This was what it was all about. This was the family I had chosen, the pack that had

become my own.

Dominic was there too, his usual stoic expression replaced by a wide and surprised grin. He clapped Giovanni on the back, they hugged. “You son of a bitch,” he said, his voice rough with emotion. “You scared the hell out of me.”

Giovanni just smiled, a tired but genuine smile that reached his eyes. “Sorry about that. Had to
