The drive back to the house was a tense, silent affair. Carlos didn’t say a word, his expression stoic, his

focus on the road ahead.

I was trying to remain calm, to stay rational, but I couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that had settled

over me.

Tricia was dangerous. Her motives unclear. And I didn’t want to find out what those motives were.

When we finally arrived at the house, I took a deep breath, steadying myself before exiting the car.

“I’ll be right here,” Carlos said, his voice a quiet, reassuring presence. “If you need me, Luna.”

“Thank you,” I replied, a small, grateful smile on my lips.

He nodded and got out of the car, following a few steps behind me as we approached the front door.

I took another deep breath, my hand shaking slightly as I turned the doorknob.

As soon as I stepped into the foyer, the scent of Tricia’s perfume hit me, a cloying, artificial fragrance that

made my nose itch. That familiar scent that I absolutely hated.

She was standing in the middle of the living room, a vision in a tight, red dress that left little to the

imagination. Her long, dark hair was styled in perfect, glossy waves, her makeup was flawless, a dramatic, smoky eye that was both alluring and intimidating.

She looked good. Too good. And I hated her for it.

“Hailey,” she said, a slow, sad smile spreading across her lips. “It’s so good to see you. I heard about the

wedding.”

“What are you doing here, Tricia?” I asked, my tone a cool, clipped.

She looked at me, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. “Is that any way to greet an old friend?” she said, her

voice dripping with feigned innocence.

Dominic arrived a few seconds after me and stopped in the doorway, his presence filling the room with an

almost tangible energy. His gaze landed on Tricia, a cold, hard stare that was devoid of any emotion.

“Tricia,” he said, his voice a low, warning growl. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to see you,” she said, a small, tearful smile playing on her lips. “I have nowhere else to go right

now. I was too ashamed yo tell you I lost my contract with my modeling company. They dropped me for

reasons unknown to me and I thought I had it figured out, but they have permanently removed me from

the modeling industry and blacklisted me. After I left here, I went to my mother’s house to stay but you

know how bad our relationship has always been. She kicked me out of the house. I need your help,

Dominic. I’ve made some terrible mistakes. And I want to make things right.”

I had to physically stop myself from laughing out loud. She wanted to make things right? After everything she had done? After she tried to ruin my relationship with Dominic, after she lied and manipulated and

schemed, she wanted to make things right?

I didn’t believe her. Not for a second. This was just another one of her games, another one of her schemes

to come back into Dominic’s life. She had probably lost her modeling contract and was now looking for a

way to get it back by telling him she wanted to “make things right” and he probably would help her.
