CHAPTER HUNDRED–SEVENTYFIVE–2
She was good. I had to give her that. She played the part of the damsel in distress perfectly, a vulnerable,
broken woman who was at the mercy of the big, strong, Alpha.
But I saw through her facade. I saw the cold, calculating glint in her eyes, the subtle, almost imperceptible curl of her lip. She was a predator, a master manipulator, and she was playing him like a fiddle.
“I’m sorry for your loss of job,” I said, my tone a cool, clipped. “But this isn’t a homeless shelter. You can’t just show up here and expect us to take you in. This is my husband’s house, which technically makes it my house too and I do not want to be under the same roof with you.”
Dominic turned to me, a look of surprise in his eyes. He wasn’t expecting me to speak up, to challenge Tricia’s sob story. He thought he would be the one to make the decision, to be the hero, to save the day.
But I was not the same timid, insecure girl he was used to all those months ago. I was the Luna of this pack. I was his wife. And I would not be pushed aside. I would not be silenced.
Tricia looked at me, a flicker of anger in her eyes, a brief, fleeting moment of rage that she quickly masked with a look of wounded innocence. “I’m not trying to cause any trouble,” she said, her voice a trembling, tearful whisper. “I promise you, I want nothing to do with your husband, he’s married to you for goddess‘ sake. I respect that. All I’m asking for is a place to stay. Just until I’m able to stand back on my feet. I’m in a dark place right now, and I need help.”
“Don’t play the victim with me, Tricia,” I said, my voice a low, warning growl. “I know you. And I know you’re not as helpless as you’re pretending to be.”
“You don’t know anything about me,” she shot back, her tone a little too sharp, a little too defensive. “You don’t know what I’ve been through. You don’t know what it’s like to lose everything.”
“You’re right,” I said, a small, humorless smile playing on my lips. “I don’t. But I know that allowing a woman who threatened to take my husband away from me, is one of the dumbest things I could do right now. So
I’m sorry, but the answer is no.”
Dominic looked at me, a flicker of admiration in his eyes. He was impressed, a silent acknowledgment of my strength and my courage. He was proud of me.
But he was also conflicted. He was torn between his loyalty to me and his sense of duty to the woman he
had once considered a friend.
“Honey, let’s hear her out. Just for a little while,” he said, a gentle, pleading tone that was a clear attempt to appease me, to find a compromise. “She’s been my friend for a long time.”
“Okay. Hear her out.” I said. I gave him my permission, because I knew it was a battle I wouldn’t win. But I was still going to stand my ground. I was still going to make it clear that I was not going to let her walk all
over me.
Tricia’s face fell, a look of disappointment on her face. She was hoping for a fight, a chance to play the

“Thank you, Dominic,” she said, a small, grateful smile on her lips. “I won’t cause any trouble. I promise.”
