After Rejection Divorced Luna Becomes A Famous Doctor (Hailey and Dominic) novel Chapter 234

CHAPTER HUNDREDSEVENTYNINE

HAILEY

It’s been one month now of keeping the news of my pregnancy to ourselves. The secret had settled over

Dominic and me like a warm, protective blanket.

In the privacy of our rooms, it was all we talked about. He’d talk to my stomach, a low, rumbling murmur

that I was sure the baby could feel, a vibration of pure love and anticipation. He was already a different

father, more present, more involved. He’d read Liam stories about becoming a big brother, and my son

would press his ear against my belly, his face scrunched in concentration, trying to hear the secret

conversations.

But outside our sanctuary, the world hadn’t changed. In fact, it had gotten more complicated.

Tricia was a constant, looming presence. She kept to the guest wing as ordered, but her influence was like a slow acting poison. I didn’t feel any better after a month, I still had the same uneasiness, and the same

distrust.

I’d see her sometimes from a distance, walking in the gardens, always looking perfectly composed,

always dressed to the nines, as if she were at a high society brunch instead of mooching off the family of the man she’d tried to steal. She never spoke to me, just offered a small, sad smile from across the lawn

that never reached her cold, calculating eyes.

The pack members, especially some of the unmated females, were a different story. I’d catch them whispering when they thought I wasn’t looking, their pitying glares aimed at Tricia. “She’s been through so

much,I overheard one of them say in the marketplace. To lose her career, her homeand the Alpha just

banishes her to the guest wing. The Luna must be so insecure.

The comment stung more than I wanted to admit. Dominic had been firm, his orders clear. But he couldn’t control the hearts and minds of his people. To them, Tricia was the tragic friend, the fallen beauty. And I

was the jealous, possessive wife.

The unease from the killer still lingered. There hasn’t been any more murders. But the uncertainty, the feeling of being watched, remained. Dominic’s increased patrols were a constant reminder of the danger lurking just beyond our borders.

The combined stress was heavy on my shoulders, a tension that lived in my neck and my back. I was in my second trimester, and while the morning sickness had thankfully faded, a new, more persistent fatigue had taken its place. Today, it was a heavy, dragging exhaustion that made my bones feel like lead.

I had just entered fourth month, which means I was in my second trimester. I had a small, but noticeable bump. A new life was growing inside of me, love that overshadowed everything else. I was doing this for

my baby. For my family.

I was in the kitchen, staring into the open refrigerator, trying to summon the energy to make a sandwich. The thought of cold cuts and cheese was suddenly repulsive. I wanted somethingweird.

Pineapple,I murmured, closing the fridge with a sigh. And pickles.

Dominic walked in, his presence immediately filling the room. He’d been out with the patrol unit, a faint

scent of pine and damp earth clinging to him. He saw the look on my face, the tired slump of my

shoulders.

What is it, my love?he asked, his voice a low, gentle rumble. He came up behind me, wrapping his strong arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder, his hands splaying possessively over my small

bump.

Pineapple and pickles,I said, leaning my head back against his chest. It’s all I can think about.

He chuckled, a warm, deep sound that vibrated through me. A classic pregnancy craving. I’ll go to the

store. You should rest. You look exhausted.

I am,I admitted, not bothering to hide it. He was the only person I could be truly vulnerable with. But I

can’t seem to stop moving. My mind won’t shut off.

He turned me around in his arms, his hands moving to cup my face. His thumbs stroked my cheeks, his eye’s full of admiration. I’m worried about you,he said quietly. The stress isn’t good for you or the baby.

I know,I whispered, my gaze dropping to the floor. I’m trying, Dominic. I really am.”

I know you are,he said, leaning down to press a soft kiss to my forehead. Which is why I’m taking you

away.

My head snapped up. What? Where?

For the weekend. Just us. And Liam,” he added with a small smile. There’s a cabin by the lake. A few

hours from here. No pack politics, no Tricia, ne whispers. Just fresh air and quiet. What do you say?

A wave of relief washed over me, so potent it almost made my knees buckle. An escape. A real one. Yes,”

I breathed out. Goddess, yes.

Good. It’s settled then,” he said, his expression firm. We’ll leave tomorrow morning. Giovanni will handle things here.

The hope that bloomed in my chest was fragile, but it was real. A whole weekend of normalcy. A chance

to breathe. What about Tricia?I couldn’t help but ask, the name like ash in my mouth.

Carlos will keep an eye on her. She won’t even know we’re gone,he said, his tone leaving no room for

argument. This is for you, Hailey. For our family.

How did u become so lucky to have a man like Dominic who puts my needs first? I thought to myself. He

has grown so much.

We decided to tell Liam that night. We were sitting in his room, the walls covered in his colorful drawings
