“Carlos,” I said, finally calming down. He has always found a way to appease me, and right now, it was much needed. “There’s nothing to forgive. It’s okay. You don’t have to apologize. Just, make sure you follow through with what I askwithout asking questions. Understood?”
“Yes, Alpha. Of course.”
I sat down on the bed, the anger in me slowly dissipating.
“I just want to find the one responsible for poisoning Hailey,” I said, my voice a low, desperate murmur. “I just want to find them and make them pay. If you have ever been in love, you would understand why it’s so painful to see someone you love hurting, and not being able to do anything about it. If you have ever been in love, then you would understand why it’s so important to find the truth. Because if you have ever been in love, you would do anything to those who hurt the one you love.”
Carlos nodded, his expression solemn.
“I know,” he said, his voice a low, rumbling growl. “I know, Dominic. And I will do whatever it takes to find the truth. Whatever it takes.”
“Good,” I said, my voice a low, rumbling hiss. “Good. Go check on the two of them. Make sure they are ready for their trial. Make sure they know what’s going to happen if they don’t cooperate. Make sure they know the consequences. Make sure they know the fucking punishment. Make sure they know that their lives are over if they don’t talk. This is their last chance to do it the calm way, once they don’t cooperate, I will have to take this case up myself. And that’s the last thing they would want. Because once I get my
hands on them, I will tear them to pieces. And I will enjoy it.”
“I’ll make sure they’re aware of the situation, Alpha,” he said, his voice a low, urgent whisper.
“Good,” I said, a grim smile on my face. “Because this is their last chance. This is their last fucking
chance.”
He bowed his head and left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
The anger in me was gone, but the fear was still there.
The fear of losing Hailey. The fear of losing the baby. The fear of losing my family. The fear of failing them. I sat there, the fear eating away at me, until Carlos came back, his expression grim. He shook his head. “They still won’t talk, Alpha,” he said. “But they seem terrified. They know what’s coming. They know what will happen if they don’t confess. But they won’t talk. They won’t say anything. I’m afraid they won’t break, no matter what we do.”
“That’s it.” I gritted out, standing to my feet. “I have been patient with them, and look where it has gotten us. The trial will go forward as planned, and if they refuse to cooperate, then they will have to face the me.”
“Are you sure, Alpha?” he asked, his expression grave.

CHAPTER TWOHUNDRED TWO 2
“Yes,” I said, my voice a low, deadly snarl. “I’m fucking sure. Prepare the trial. Make sure they are brought into the center of the village, and that everyone knows about it. I want the entire pack present. I want them
to see what happens to traitors. To those who would hurt the Alpha and his mate. I want them to know
that there are consequences. I want them to know that they can’t get away with this. That there will be no mercy. No forgiveness. Only punishment. Make sure everyone knows. I want them to fucking see.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Carlos said, a grim expression on his face.
I watched as he left the room, the rage in me burning.
I would find the one responsible.
