“A-alpha. I am just a lowly servant… I didn’t have a choice. She… she forced me to do this. I would never want to hurt the Luna. Please, you have to believe me.”
I rose an eyebrow and sat down in front of her. “So, it’s a she.” I murmured and the maid nodded vigorously.
“She threatened to kill my family, and the other maids, if I didn’t. Please Alpha, you have to believe me, I’m not a traitor.”
“You really want me to believe you aren’t a traitor, when you still haven’t told me who sent you to do all of this. Keeping their identity hidden would only further your case, wouldn’t it? You’re not very smart, are you, Lucy? You would rather risk your life than that of the traitor? Are you willing to die to protect this person,
and keep her name safe?”
She kept quiet, her face pale as a sheet. “Alpha, please…” She stammered, her eyes watering. I could scent her fear in the air, a heavy perfume that smelled of decay and death.
“Please what?” I snarled.
She swallowed hard, “Please don’t kill me.” She stammered and I smiled a cruel, cold smile.
“Why shouldn’t I? You are nothing but a traitor to this pack, to the one who is carrying my child, you betrayed her, you betrayed your own Alpha. You are a disgrace to this pack. So, why shouldn’t I kill you?
Tell me?”
“Alpha…”
“Stop talking.” I snarled and she fell silent, tears streaming down her cheeks. “You are nothing but a pathetic coward, hiding behind your master like a dog. You have no honor, you are nothing but a filthy traitor, a pathetic coward who only thinks about herself, about her own skin, not even bothering about the well being of those she called pack.” I sneered and she fell to her knees.
“You are pathetic. And you should die. I’ve had enough patience. As much as I don’t want to have your blood on my hands, I won’t have a coward living amongst my pack.” I said, my voice low and dangerous. “W-what do you mean Alpha? P-please, let me explain,” she said, her eyes wide, her voice trembling. “Tomorrow, once the clock hits twelve noon, your head will roll on the floor. And then, I will make sure that the person behind this gets punished.” I snarled and rose, just as I was about to leave, she finally spoke.
The words that came out of her mouth literally sent cold chills into my body and soul. I froze. “What did you say?” I paused, turning around to face her
I had probably heard her wrong. Maybe my anger had clouded my senses. Yes. That was it.
“Tricia” She repeated and my breathing literally stopped, it couldn’t be. My heart began to pound against my chest as my wolf howled in anger.
Tricia?
She said Tricia was the one behind this.
The betrayal hurt, the rage that followed burned through my soul. How the fuck didn’t I think of this? Her sudden arrival back at my pack was supposed to raise my suspicions, Hailey had frowned at the idea of her staying. She didn’t want her to stay here. She didn’t trust her, and I was an idiot not to see the warning signs earlier
My rage turned into an inferno of hate, my wolf howled, clawing at the surface of my mind, eager to be free, eager to taste her blood on his jaws, eager to rip her to shreds. My wolf howled for blood and I knew it was going to have blood.
I had given her so many benefit of doubt. Refusing to believe that the woman I called my best friend, the
one I took as my little sister would be capable of doing this.
1 didn’t want to believe.
But now,
Now, I couldn’t deny the truth.
The evidence was right here.
The traitor had a name and it was one of the names I never thought would come out of Lucy’s mouth.
It was her
My friend,
Tricia.
My best friend.
I turned to look at Lucy, who was kneeling before me. She had her eyes closed, waiting for the inevitable. “What should I do to you if I find out that you lied to me? Tricia has not been allowed in my wing, so how is that possible?” I asked and she looked up at me.
