CHAPTER TWOHUNDRED ELEVEN-1
CHAPTER TWOHUNDRED-ELEVEN-1
HAILEY
I couldn’t sleep. The mansion was quiet, the guards patrolling with silent, efficient steps, but my mind was a raging tempest. Every creak of the floorboards, every whisper of the wind against the windows, sent a jolt of adrenaline through me. I was trapped, a prisoner in my own home, while the man I loved was suffering.
Liam stirred in his sleep, a soft sigh escaping his lips. I smoothed his hair back, my heart aching. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him that his father was in danger when he had asked about him. I could only lie that he went in a business trip. He looked so much like Dominic, the same stubborn set to his jaw, even in sleep. I would not let him grow up without a father. I would not let Tricia win.
I slipped out of bed, my bare feet silent on the cool marble floor. I needed air. I needed to think. I needed
to feel something other than this suffocating fear.
The balcony overlooking the gardens was my only escape. I leaned against the railing, the night air cool on my skin, and closed my eyes. I focused on the bond again, pouring all of my love, my rage, my desperation into it, hoping it would reach him.
Dominic, where are you? I thought, the words a silent prayer. Hold on. Just hold on. We’re coming.
Then, I felt it again. A clearer this time. A wave of cold, metallic pain, followed by a surge of defiance. He was fighting back. He was alive.
A new resolve hardened in my chest. I wouldn’t be a pawn in Tricia’s twisted game. I wouldn’t be a victim.
I went back inside, my movements now purposeful. I found Valerie in the living room, her expression grim as she spoke with a group of guards.
“I need you to do something for me,” I said, my voice low but firm.
She turned to me, her eyes questioning. “Anything, Hailey.”
“I need to talk to someone. Someone who knew Tricia, someone who might be able to give us an
advantage.”
“Tricia had nobody, Hails. She would rather die than ever tell anybody about her secret.”
And then suddenly, a light bulb switched in my head. “I think… I think I might have someone that could give us a lead.” I said to Valerie.
“Who? We’re at a dead end here. Giovanni and the entire pack are doing everything they can and have found no trace of them. They just disappeared from the face of the earth.”
“Lucy.”
“The girl she sent to poison you?”

I nodded. “She must know someone that could lead us to Tricia. I need to go down the cell and have a
talk with her.”
“Hell no, absolutely not.” Valerie immediately shut me down. “You’re not going anywhere near that cell.
Dominic will kill me if anything happens to you.”
“Valerie, listen to me,” I said, grabbing her arms, my gaze intense. “Dominic is out there. And I need to do
something. This is the only lead we have right now. Please. I need to do this.”
She looked at me, her eyes filled with worry, but she saw the determination in my eyes. She knew I
wouldn’t back down.
“Alright,” she sighed, defeated. “But I’m coming with you. And we’re not telling Giovanni. He’ll never allow
it.”
I nodded, a small sense of relief washing over me. “Thank you.”
We made our way to the dungeons, the air growing colder as we descended. The guards at the entrance nodded at Valerie, their expressions neutral, but their eyes held a flicker of curiosity. They knew better than to question the Luna and her best friend.
Lucy was huddled in the corner of her cell, her knees drawn to her chest, her face pale and gaunt. She looked up as we approached, her eyes wide with fear.
“What do you want?” she asked, her voice a hoarse whisper.
“I need you to tell me about Tricia,” I said, my tone direct.
“I already told you everything I know.”
“I don’t think you have,” I said, my voice dangerously low. “You see, Tricia has Dominic. And if you don’t help me, I will make sure you spend the rest of your life in this cell, rotting away. And that’s the best case
scenario.”
