CHAPTER FIFTY–EIGHT–1
HAILEY
It was finally a new week, which means my one week leave was over and I needed to get my ass back to
work.
Honestly, it was going to be a great distraction away from the whole drama that has been going on.
The weekend was very hectic, and stressful.
Between the stupid mistake I made with Dominic, my mind constantly replaying just how much mistake I had made. It hadn’t helped that I had hickeys everywhere in my neck as a constant reminder of how bad
my mistake was.
I had to wear a scarf, and makeup over the marks just so no one would see. It was embarrassing, and shameful. I’ve never been more disappointed in myself as I am now, and the worse part? Was that!
enjoyed it.
God, how pathetic.
And now, the guilt was eating me alive.
After all the promises I made to myself never to fall for his charms. Never to let myself go and do
something stupid. And yet, the second I had an opportunity, I went all out.
What was I even thinking?
And, now, every time I looked at my phone, there would be a text from Dominic asking me to meet him, or calling me, and I was constantly rejecting him.
He would call, and text over and over, and I wouldn’t answer. I just couldn’t bear the thought of speaking to him.
I stepped out of the shower, and wrapped a towel around myself. As soon as I entered my room, I could smell the scent of bacon and eggs, and it was delicious.
“Someone’s cooking breakfast.”
I heard Valerie sing from the kitchen.
I chuckled to myself.
It wasn’t a surprise that she was in a good mood, considering the fact that she’s been getting laid by Gio. I was happy that she was finally letting herself get taken care of by a man after all that happened in her past, but I wasn’t entirely sure if Gio was the right person for her.
The way he had treated her before, the fact that he had used her and left her was not okay.
I didn’t like the idea of them being together, but it was her life and her decision. All I could do was be there for her, and support her even though I had my doubts. I already had the stereotype of the Kings never

treating women right, but maybe I was just putting my trauma of one certain King on all of them.
It wasn’t fair to Gio, especially when he was trying to show Valerie a different side of himself.

So, all I could do was support her, and be there for her. Because, she honestly deserves to finally have a man treat her well, and maybe he was the man to finally give her the love and the life she’s been waiting
for.
After getting dressed, I went to my vanity table to style my hair and do my makeup up. I picked out a pair of high waisted jeans, and a flowy top.
I did a natural makeup look, and a simple hairstyle. Once done, I went back to the kitchen, and grabbed a cup of coffee, sipping the hot liquid.
“Good morning sunshine!” Valerie sang, and I smiled.
“Good morning, V. Looks like someone’s in a great mood.”
She giggled, and looked up from the frying pan, where the bacon was cooking.
“What can I say? The sex is good. Really good.”
I raised my eyebrows, and laughed.
“You are something else.”
“What? Can’t I enjoy the sex I’m having with the hottest guy ever? God knows all I’ve needed in my life was an amazing c**k. And now, I have one.”
I choked on my coffee, and almost spit it out.
“Jesus, Val. You have to warn me before you say stuff like that.”
“Why not? It’s true. The man has a massive cock.”
“Ew. TMI. No more. I don’t want to hear any more of your sex talk. Especially not before breakfast.”
She burst out laughing, and shook her head.
“You’re too funny. What are your plans today?”
“First, I need to drop Liam off at school. Got a few surgeries to perform, and then I’ll probably be heading home after work. What about you? Do you have a shift at the hospital?”

CHAPTER FIFTY–EIGHT–2
“No, but I’m doing some volunteer work at the old folks home home, courtesy of the hospital. We are giving them their vaccines, and it should take most of the day. Gio’s going with me, and it’s honestly sweet how much he’s involved with the place.”
“Gio? Why?”
“Apparently, it was his mom’s favorite place, and he used to go there a lot with her. And, they had a few residents that used to know her, and he would chat with them, and take care of them.”
Giovanni and Dominic rarely talk about their family, mainly because the story is a tragic and dark one. Their father was a monster. A terrible one. And he had scarred their childhood. I learnt of how abusive his father was to their mother, how he would rape, best and torture her. I couldn’t imagine what those poor boys must have seen growing up. How much trauma and pain they had endured.
Their mother developed a drug addiction, and the abuse and violence were what eventually led her to her
death.
Their father was the worst, but I wasn’t even surprised. He was a disgusting excuse of a man.
It was clear as day, considering he had tried to kill his own sons and tried to auction off his daughter. And, if it wasn’t for Dominic’s quick thinking and action, they would have been killed. At age seventeen, Dominic
killed his father in cold blood and shot him between the eyes.
The two brothers have suffered a lot in their lives, and they have been through the worst. They were forced to grow up so fast, and learn to survive at a young age.
After the trauma, their sister traveled far away from their hometown and cut off all ties with them.
Giovanni had a complicated relationship with his sister, but they both loved each other very much, and
even though they were thousands of miles apart, he always checked on her, and made sure she was safe.
But, she never once called or reached out to them.
Their whole family was just a whole mess, and the brothers had dealt with the consequences and trauma alone.
Dominic was the one who took care of everything after the murder, and Giovanni was still dealing with the emotional scars that had haunted him his whole life.
I was just thankful to be out of that lifestyle. Thankful for the life I have now.
“You alright there, Hailey?” Valerie asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just thinking about something. Anyway, enough of that. Are you staying over tonight?” “Yeah, Gio and I are going out tonight. It’s the first time he’s taking me to a club, and I’m excited. He’s meeting me there, since he has a meeting this afternoon. I feel like I’ve been too hard on him lately, you

know? He seems like he’s genuinely sorry and is trying his best to prove to me how much I mean to him.”
“Well, that’s great. But I still need you to be careful. Don’t trust him blindly, and please think twice before getting into a relationship with him.”
“Hailey, we’re just having fun. Don’t worry. I’m not going to let myself get hurt. Trust me, I won’t let a man control me. Besides, there’s no relationship, we’re just having fun, you know? Exclusively. We are just going with the flow, and seeing where it takes us.”
I smiled.
“Whatever makes you happy. Just promise me that you will be careful. I don’t want to see you get hurt,
Val.”
“Don’t worry, babe. I’m a big girl. I can take care of myself. I don’t need a man to fight my battles. Besides, if I’m wrong about him, then at least we got good sex. Right?”
I groaned.
“Oh, god. Please don’t start again.”
She laughed.
“Relax, babe. Now, finish your food. I’ve got to take a shower and get ready. Gio will be here any minute
now.”
“I’m finished, actually. I need to get going, and drop Liam off, then head to the hospital. Call me if you need anything, and please be careful, V. Don’t forget the condoms.”
“Hai, Hai. Of course, we’re not having sex without a condom. I’m not crazy. Now, go. And, stop worrying. Everything will be fine.”
“If you say so.”
“Yes, yes. Now, get lost. I’ll talk to you later. Love you!”
“Love you too.”
I went to pick up Liam who was already dressed, he ate his breakfast while Valerie showered and got ready. Once he was done, we left.
After dropping Liam off, I went straight to the hospital and parked the car.
I could already see the exhaustion I was going to feel from all the surgery, but it was my job, and it had to
be done.
I had a busy day ahead of me, and the first thing on the list was a spinal fusion, and a few other minor surgeries.
