CHAPTER NINETY-TWO
HAILEY
I wiped my tears away, and looked up at him.
“You think so?”
“I know so. I can feel it. There’s something about him, and it’s more than his looks and intelligence. It’s something else. Something that will help him get through life, and will lead him on the path that was destined for him. He has the heart of a warrior, and the will to fight for what’s right. He will be the man that everyone wants to be. He will have the world at his feet, and his name will be known throughout the world.”
I chuckled, and shook my head.
“You are a hopeless romantic. You and your words. They make me smile, and forget all the pain.
Thank you.”
“You’re welcome love. Anytime.”
“Now, let’s go. We’re already late.”
“Alright.”
He started the car, and we were on the road again.
My parents had been cremated, and their ashes were buried in the cemetery. My father was a soldier, and had been honored with full military honors.
Every year on this day, I would visit their grave, and tell them about my life and what’s happening. But it’s been six years since my last visit. After giving birth, my life became busy. With Liam, being in a different country and my job, I didn’t have the time.
But this year, I had made sure to plan ahead, and had gotten everything ready. I had ordered flowers, balloons, and had prepared a picnic basket. We were going to have a little celebration and spread some love and cheer.
“We’re here.” Dominic said as he parked the car, and killed the engine.
I looked out the window, and saw that the cemetery was filled with people. There were families visiting their loved ones, and spreading the love.
It was a beautiful sight, and my heart swelled with pride.
“Are you ready?”

I nodded, and took a deep breath.
“Let’s do this.”

I took a basket filled with food and flowers, and opened the door. Dominic had taken Liam who had been sleeping in the back seat, and was waiting for me.
I smiled at them, and walked over.
“Ready?”
“Yep.”
“Great.”
I grabbed the basket, and walked towards the grave. Their graveyard still looked neat and beautiful. I had paid the groundskeeper to keep the graves clean and tidy every week for years.
We reached their graves, and stopped.
“Mom… Dad… I’m here.”
My voice caught, and my vision blurred with tears.
“I’m sorry that it’s been a long time. But, I’m here now. And I brought a very special someone. Someone who has been a new addition to our family. Your first grandson. This is Liam. My son.
Can
you believe that? Your little girl is a mother. He’s six, and the light of my life. You would love him. He’s a great kid. Smart, funny, caring, and kind. He’s a little angel, and the best thing that has ever happened to me. He has his father’s eyes, and looks exactly like him. But, he has his father’s brains, and the attitude to go along with it. He is an amazing kid, and I am so lucky to have him in my life. He brings so much joy, and I love him more than anything else in the world.”
Wiping my tears, I removed the old flowers and balloons, and replaced them with the new ones. “These are for you. And, here is a little gift. It’s been a while since we have eaten together, and it’s not the same anymore. I miss you so much. And, it hurts so bad. But, I know that you are looking down on me. On us. You’re watching over us, and I know that you’re happy. And I hope that you’re not sad. That you’re not sad that I haven’t visited you for a long time. I’m sorry, but things have been hectic. But I’m here now. I’m here, and I miss you. So much. I just wish that I could talk to you. Tell you about everything that has been going on. And, I want to share everything with you. To see the look on your faces when I tell you about my life. Our lives. Liam’s and mine. I pray your souls rest in peace, and I hope that one day, we’ll meet again.”
I placed the flowers and balloons down, and placed the food basket on the side.
“Let’s eat.”

CHAPTER NINETY TWO
We sat on the grass, and shared a meal.
Dominic and I talked about our lives and the changes, and Liam ate in silence.

He was a little quiet today, and seemed sad. I knew it was because he had seen me cry. And I tried my best to be in a lighter mood.
I had made him his favorite food, and he loved it.
When we were done, we packed up, and headed to the car.
Liam fell asleep on the way back, as we drove towards home.
Dominic held my hand, and intertwined his fingers with mine.
“Are you okay?”
I sighed, and turned to him.
“So much better. I feel like a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I don’t know why, but talking to them made me feel so much better. Like a weight has been lifted off my shoulder. I feel relieved. Like I’m not alone. It’s like, I can talk to them, and they can hear me. It’s a good feeling.”
“I’m glad that you feel that way. And, I’m glad that you took the time out of your busy schedule to visit them. They would have been very happy.”
“Thank you. For everything. You’re an amazing man. And an amazing father.”
“You’re welcome, and thanks. But, I’m only trying to be the best man that I can be. For myself. For you. For our son. For our future. For everyone that is involved.”
“Well, you’re doing an amazing job. And, thank you.”
“For what?”
“For being there. For me, and for Liam. Thank you for helping me through this and being a pillar of support. Thank you for holding me and telling me that everything will be okay. For wiping away my tears, and making me smile. Thank you for listening, and letting me talk. You don’t know how much that means to me.”
“You’re welcome, and it’s the least I can do. I care about you, and I want you to be happy. You and Liam are the most important people in my life, and nothing else matters.”
He squeezed my hand and placed a soft kiss on it. I felt my heart flutter, and a smile spread across my face.
“Now, let’s get our baby home. I’m sure he’s hungry.”
