She reached to get out, but found the door locked. She glanced over at him in confusion and met his deep dark eyes.
She realized what he wanted to ask.
“Tatiana, why did you save me?”
“No special reason. I just like helping people.”
He suddenly let out a short laugh, “Like helping people? Enough to throw your own life away? That knife only missed your vital spots by a hair’s breadth-you could have died.”
She couldn’t die that easily.
She’d run through this exact scenario countless times in training.
Bruises from wooden practice blades still marked her other arm.
Nothing would go wrong.
But she put on a soft smile right then, “I didn’t expect it to turn that dangerous. It was just a split-second instinct.”
“Tatiana, are you being serious right now?”
“Yeah.”
He leaned in fast.
Their faces were inches apart, almost touching.
Tatiana’s pupils shrank, and she pulled back on reflex.
She quickly fixed her reaction, forcing a shy look and biting down on her lower lip like she was flustered.
It looked just like genuine bashfulness.
Liam’s breathing grew heavy, his voice rough, “Tatiana, I’m asking you one more time-why did you jump in front of that knife for me?”
Tatiana said three slow words, “I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?”
“That’s right. I didn’t even think. My body moved before my brain caught up.”
This vague answer hit him harder than a straight confession.
Caring for someone without even realizing it—it sounded perfect to him.
Liam chuckled quietly to himself.
He wasn’t the only one with unspoken feelings after all.
“You’ve got your answer now. Can I head home?”
He nodded and unlocked the door, relenting, “Fine.”
Tatiana climbed out of the car immediately and walked away quickly.
Her back looked like she was running away.
Liam smiled wider, warmth filling his gaze.
He knew he was totally head over heels for this woman, and it seemed she felt something for him too.
He didn’t want to rush into labeling their relationship right away.
Someone as special as her deserved a proper, romantic confession scene.
He had no idea Tatiana was barely holding back nausea.
She relied on rock-solid self-control to mask her genuine disgust and keep up the act flawlessly.
Once his car drove off, she let out a long slow breath.
She pulled out her phone and made a call, speaking in a low quiet tone, “Stay hidden for the next few days and don’t go outside. I’ll send people to drop off food and daily supplies for you.”
The attacker had disguised himself as a beggar that day, but Liam might have picked up on small identifying details and recognized him later.
She hung up the phone and a sharp throbbing pain shot through her wounded arm. Still, everything went exactly as she planned.

No man can resist a good old-fashioned pity trick.
She kept walking while sorting through her thoughts.

A hand suddenly shot out, grabbed her hard, and dragged her into the narrow gap between stairwell walls before she could react.
Shadows swallowed her, and a sharp cold scent washed over her.
She lifted her head and locked eyes with a pair of blazing furious eyes.
She stood perfectly still and tugged the corner of her mouth into a faint smirk, “What a coincidence, Mr. Jackson.”
She dragged out the last two words with sharp emphasis.
Jasper was seething with rage.
All his rational plans and careful thinking blew apart like a bomb going off in his head. All he wanted was to pull her tight in his arms and claim her for himself.
“Tatiana, why would you pull a stunt like this?”
“I have nothing to say about it.”
“Do you even understand what you’re playing at?”
“I know exactly what I’m doing.”
“Stay far away from him.”
Tatiana smiled faintly, “And if I refuse?”
The last thread of his self-control snapped.
He lowered his face to hers and crashed his lips against hers roughly.
Hard, bruising, unrelenting.
His kiss carried bottled-up anger and a faint, obvious trace of fear.
He was scared.
He’d watched the whole scene inside the car earlier.
Liam had been so close to her, close enough to wrap his arms around her at any second.

Chapter 636 His Jealous Outburst
Jealousy burned hot and fierce in his chest.
He was terrified of losing her.
He forced her parted lips open and deepened the kiss.
“Mmph!”
It was too rough.
He poured every bit of longing he’d built up over these months into the harsh kiss.
Tatiana could barely breathe and tried to push him off, but he grabbed her injured arm.
“Mmph! Ah!”
Sharp pain made tears spring to her eyes instantly.
Jasper snapped back to his senses and pulled away, letting go of her at once.
Tatiana clutched her wounded arm, her face drained of all color as tears rolled down her
cheeks.
She sank slowly to the floor, overcome by stabbing agony.
Blood seeped through the bandages wrapped around her arm.
Her cut had split open again.
