“Let’s get your wound treated first, alright? I’ll tell you everything, I won’t hide anything from you anymore.”
Tatiana’s eyes turned cold, clearly not believing a word.
His gaze dimmed, “I hate that I hurt you. I’m so sorry this time. You can punish me however you like, I’ll take it. There’s just one thing I beg you for.
“Don’t get together with him.
“Tatiana, please.”
He was practically begging.
This man who stood above everyone bowed his head, humbly pleading for mercy from the woman he loved.
Tatiana stared at him for a long time.
The moment dragged on like a trial, the blade hanging over his head refusing to fall.
In the end, she lifted her hand and held it out toward him, “It hurts.”
He let out a huge breath of relief, tears welling up at the corners of his red eyes, “I’m sorry I hurt you. It’ll never happen again.”
He looked as if he’d been granted a precious gift, all the turbulent emotions in his eyes laid bare.
“We’ll go to the hospital.”
“We can’t go there, people will find out. I’ve already called a private doctor to come over.”
She knew deep down she’d softened her heart after all.
But when she saw how terrified he looked, and the tears he hadn’t even noticed forming, she couldn’t stay hard-hearted.
This man was her weakness too.
There was no superior between them.
Tatiana brought Jasper back to the house.

Old Mr. Jackson was absorbed in reading a book. He lifted his head at the sound of footsteps, “Tatiana’s back? You’re…”
The rest of his words died in his throat.
The book slipped out of his hands and clattered to the floor.
The old man’s eyes went wide.
He even wondered if he was imagining things.
Jasper slowly stepped out from behind Tatiana.
“Grandpa.”
Tatiana figured the grandfather and grandson had plenty to talk about, so she stepped out of the study on her own, ready to let the doctor tend to her wound.
She’d barely shut the door when Jasper followed her out.
“Aren’t you going to chat with Grandpa for a while?”
“Your injury matters more right now.”
“But…”
Jasper cut her off firmly, “We’ll treat the wound first.”
Tatiana knew she couldn’t argue with him, and the pain really was unbearable.
The old man hurried out after them, “Did Tatiana get hurt?”
“I’m fine, Grandpa. It’s just a small wound.”
But when the bandages were unwrapped, revealing the jagged scar that looked like a centipede, both of them fell silent.
The stitches had only just been put in with the finest invisible thread, yet they’d split open under rough force.
Restitching was agonizing.
Tatiana asked the old man to step outside so he wouldn’t have to watch.
The old man left to wait outside, heavy with worry.
She’d wanted to send Jasper out too, but he wouldn’t move an inch, so she held back the words.

Throughout the process, Tatiana turned her eyes away, covered in cold sweat from the sharp. pain.
Once the fresh bandages were wrapped on, all color drained from her face.
Jasper had watched the whole thing, his face dark, his eyes brimming with emotions so thick they threatened to spill over.
Heartache, and self-reproach.
Even an apology would not be enough to make up for it.
He had no idea what he could do to ease her suffering.
“Tatiana…”
“Don’t call me. Go apologize to Grandpa. He’s the one who worries about you the most.”
She could see past his calm exterior; the old man lay awake every night fretting over Jasper.
Jasper owed the old man more than anyone.
He knew it well, and only said, “I’ll explain everything to you afterward.”
Then he walked out of the room.
Tatiana leaned back on the sofa, sticky with sweat, her whole body throbbing uncomfortably. Her mind swirled with messy thoughts she couldn’t sort out.
She had no idea what the grandfather and grandson were talking about in the study.
Thankfully Hubert and Ann were away at summer camp for the next few days.
If they’d seen her wound, they would’ve chattered nonstop, fretting over her endlessly.
She didn’t know how long she’d sat there before she snapped out of her thoughts. Jasper was already sitting right beside her.
When she turned her head and finally noticed him, Jasper spoke slowly, “What were you thinking about?”
Tatiana answered casually, “I was thinking about Liam.”
That single reply made Jasper clench his fists hard, his expression shifting.
Seeing his reaction, Tatiana let out a cold laugh, “What’s that look for? Am I not allowed to think
