“Lady Sienna, you have such a bright future. You are the one that will lead the pack as the Moonborn and marry the young Prince.”

“My lady, you’re so beautiful. Look at your beautiful white hair. Unlike that curse, you are destined for greatness. You will get everything you have ever wanted. I know it.”

“Sienna, everyone will shower you with love and attention. This world is at your feet. No matter what, never let anyone outshine you. Do what you have to do to get to the top, even if you have to crush anyone. You’re the only person that should matter.”

Those were the words I had heard since I was young enough to understand them. They had been repeated to me like a sacred mantra, shaping every part of my existence.

I knew that if this world was a story, I was the main character. The world had always revolved around me. Everything had been tailored for my success from the moment I was born. I was the one the servants cared for while they left Selene crying alone in the corner as a child. I was the one my family looked at with pride and showered with love and attention while Selene begged for scraps of affection.

I was the chosen one. I was the true Moonborn, the one destined to stand beside the Prince and become the Luna of the Mooncrest Pack. I was the twin who should have the entire world kneeling at her feet. Others believed it. I believed it. The world was supposed to bend in that direction.

So what the hell was going on?

How was she alive when she should have been dead? How was she suddenly more powerful and more dangerous than she had ever been before? And most especially… why was my wolf afraid of her?

My wolf had never been scared of anyone. She was arrogant, proud, and fierce. Yet the moment Selene appeared, a cold dread had run down my spine, and my wolf had cowered back into the deepest corner of my mind as if terrified of making even the smallest sound.

My legs turned to jelly beneath me. I couldn’t hold myself up any longer. I collapsed onto the ground, my body hitting the grass with a dull thud. No one moved to help me. They were all too stunned, too frozen by what they had just witnessed. I was a mess. My once-elegant dress was stained with the blood of the warrior who had tried to carry out my orders. I no longer looked like the perfect, untouchable princess. I looked

broken.

I swallowed hard and forced my eyes toward Emma’s body. What was left of her was barely recognizable, a disfigured, dried-up corpse that looked worse than any nightmare I had ever had. Her skin was shriveled and pale, her limbs twisted at unnatural angles, and her body so drained that it resembled a brittle, hollow tree.

If someone touched her now, she would probably crumble into dust. Her eyes were still wide open in eternal terror, her mouth frozen in a silent scream of agony. It was obvious she had died while struggling in unbearable pain.

The thought made my stomach twist violently.

My heart was beating so fast it felt like it was trying to break out of my chest. The terrifying thought that this could easily have been me made everything so much worse. I still couldn’t understand what had just happened. What was that hairpin Selene had used? How did she control it like that? Why did it obey her so perfectly?

Just as those chaotic thoughts were swirling in my mind, a voice rang out across the garden, loud and urgent.

“The Alpha is here!”

Everyone snapped out of their frozen state at once and turned toward the entrance. Walking in with heavy, purposeful steps were the Alpha and the Luna, followed closely by a group of elders. Their expressions were tense, their eyes scanning the area as if searching for something important. The entire garden fell into a respectful hush as everyone immediately bowed their heads.

“Greetings to the Alpha and the Luna,” they chorused.

I quickly pulled myself together, forcing my trembling legs to stand as I put on my sweetest, most perfect smile.

“Greetings to the Alpha and Luna,” I said, my voice steady despite the fear still clawing at my insides. I had to act strong. They were here for me. I had to be the perfect daughter-in-law, the ideal Moonborn they all expected.

I looked at the Alpha with my most charming smile, but he didn’t even glance in my direction. None of them did. Instead, their eyes swept past me, searching the garden as if I wasn’t even there. My hand clenched tightly at my side. No… they couldn’t be looking for her, could they? That single thought scared me more than anything else in this moment.

I stepped forward quickly, still smiling brightly as I said, “I didn’t know you were coming, Father, Mother. If you had told me, I would have prepared so many things to welcome you properly. I brought some very fine tea from a prestigious store. Let me prepare it for you right away.”

The Alpha didn’t answer me. His gaze moved past me and landed on the bloody, horrifying scene behind me. Everyone else followed his line of sight. The moment they saw what remained of Emma, the entire garden froze. Gasps of horror escaped from their lips as they stared at the twisted, dried-up corpse. Even the Luna, who was usually so composed, looked visibly shocked.

I bit my lip hard, trying to think of something to say, when two more people rushed into the garden, breathing heavily and covered in sweat. It was my father and stepmother. They looked like they had run all the way here. My father started to move toward me but stopped abruptly when he saw the Alpha. Both he and my stepmother bowed deeply at once.

“Greetings to you, Alpha and Luna,” they said in unison.

No one responded. Their eyes were still fixed on Emma’s remains. My father frowned in confusion and turned to see what everyone was staring at. The moment his eyes landed on the gruesome sight, his face went pale and his mouth fell open in shock. My stepmother followed his gaze, then let out a horrified gasp and collapsed onto the grass, her legs giving out beneath her.

“What is that?!” she screamed, her voice shrill with terror. “What kind of thing is that?!”
