Chapter 11
Time passed little by little, and before anyone realized it, two years had gone by.
After work, Kenneth returned home and sat in a daze on the sofa. Beside the coffee table in the living room was a photo of Angelique.
He quietly gazed at Angelique’s picture in the frame. In the photo, she wore a gentle, serene smile.
But to him, it felt as if he had only ever had Angelique in a previous life.
In this life, he had never truly received Angelique’s love.
Or perhaps he had, but he hadn’t cherished it, taking her love for granted…
Kenneth closed his eyes. At first, the pain of losing Angelique might not have been so intense.
But as time went by, the pain became like snowflakes piling up on his body.
Over time, it turned into an unbearable block of ice.
By the time he realized it, he was already struggling, his breathing uneven.
At that moment, the door opened-Lenora had come home.
Lenora had just started middle school this year, and her homework load was heavy. After entering, she glanced at Kenneth and was about to head to her room to do her assignments.
“Wait!”
Kenneth sat up. “A while ago, your teacher called me and said you were in a relationship at school.”
“Lena, this isn’t right. You’re still a student. How can you be in a relationship so early? Dating is too soon for you right now.”
But Lenora looked at him impatiently. “What does it have to do with you? Do I need you to teach me?”
“The person I like treats me very well, not like how you treated my mom!”
“If you want me to be better, fine-if Mom comes back, I’ll be better!”

“You” Kenneth didn’t have time to get angry before Lenora slammed the door shut.
Kenneth clutched his head in pain.
Angelique, can you tell me how you used to guide Lenora?
Can you come back? Life without you is truly unbearable for me…
Over these two years, Sandra and Eduardo were also plagued by nightmares every day.
Sandra had sought out Rosalie, hoping to bring Angelique’s ashes home, but was told that Angelique had said before her death, that she never wanted to see anyone from the Benson family again, not even her ashes would return to them.
Rosalie remembered Angelique’s last words and scattered her ashes into the sea.
Sandra’s mental state deteriorated rapidly, even to the point of delusion.
She often believed that Angelique was still in school and would come home after classes.
And what about Eduardo?
Eduardo simply sat in Angelique’s room every day, looking at the things she had left behind.
Other than that, there was nothing else.
Another two years passed, and Lenora was now in her first year of high school.
Today was the day for the parent-teacher conference, and Kenneth was the one who came.
But in the classroom, most of the students’ mothers were present. Watching these mothers ask the teacher about their children’s studies one after another, and then looking at Kenneth, who was distractedly talking on the phone with someone.
Lenora lowered her head.
If her mother were still here, would she also be like the other mothers, asking the teacher about her studies, and then gently encouraging her to study when they got home?
That’s what a mother should be like, but now, where did she have a mother?
Lenora tried hard to hold back her tears and turned away.
So this is what it means when people say that losing a loved one is a lifelong sorrow-the meaning is so profound…

After the parent-teacher conference, Kenneth went to a private room at the entertainment club to discuss business.
Having lost Angelique, he could only numb himself by working constantly.
Other than that, he couldn’t think of any other way to cope with the pain.
After finishing his business and leaving the private room, he saw Catherine.
Catherine was being scolded harshly by the manager. She stood there with her head bowed, her face marked with a red handprint.
He brushed past Catherine without looking back.
After the Benson family and Catherine canceled the adoption process, Catherine was taken back by her biological father.
He hadn’t expected to run into Catherine here.
But he had no intention of helping her, because this was the retribution Catherine deserved for taking everything from Angelique.
This retribution was hers to bear.
And the pain of losing Angelique was something he and the Benson couple would have to endure…
Kenneth gave a bitter smile and left the entertainment club.

Rosalie sat in front of the grave with a bouquet of flowers, as usual. She opened a can of beer and poured it onto the ground before the grave.
Then she ate the fried chicken in front of her alone.
“I still remember, before we parted, we were eating fried chicken and drinking beer together. In the blink of an eye, so many years have passed.”
Rosalie sighed and began to softly recount what had happened over the years.
Sandra had passed away, and it was Eduardo who found her.
