Chapter 19 The Invitation
“But Florence, this guy’s known for being impossible to please! If he’s not happy with a potential partner, he’ll shut it down on the spot!”
Florence paused mid-step, her phone in hand. The soft glow from the streetlight cast shifting shadows across her face.
“Yet he just said he’d bring the proposal back to the Elder Council to further discuss the equity terms for the investment.”
“That’s a great sign!” Zera nearly shrieked through the phone.
“If he wasn’t interested, he would’ve shown you the door. But the fact that he’s thinking it over? That means he’s at least 70% in! Stay on it, Florence. Whether our college gets to the next level, it’s all riding on you.”
“Got it.”
Florence ended the call. Instead of calling a cab, she shifted into her wolf form and sprinted home.
Her wolf had been regaining strength ever since she arrived in Hegreau. Now, she could shift again with ease.
And that felt like progress. Like everything was finally starting to move in the right direction.
The next morning, she was sitting at her vanity, applying lipstick, when her phone rang unexpectedly.
Axel’s name lit up the screen. They had exchanged numbers just the day before.
After a pause, she answered, “Axel?”
“Ms. Wraith,” came the smooth chuckle on the other end, mixed with faint traffic in the background.
“Are you free today? I just sent you a location-I think you’ll find it interesting.”
She had barely opened her mouth to ask about the contract when a text popped up with the address.
It was the Galeborn Pack’s Exhibition Hall.
The words “Contemporary Architectural Design Showcase” leapt out at her. She’d been tracking this exhibit for weeks. Tickets had sold out within hours.
Even Zera, with her wide network, couldn’t get one.
Florence couldn’t find a single reason to say no.
Half an hour later, she stood outside the exhibition hall, spotting Axel leaning casually against the front of his car.
