Back in Time to Fall for Him novel Chapter 12

Madison raced out the door without a second thought, scanning for Sam and silently praying he hadn't gone far.

She peeled out of the driveway and caught sight of his car pulled over at the corner. He was leaning on the door, smoking.

Madison's breath hitched. A rush of relief slammed into her. He was still here!

Sam saw her too, and their gazes locked.

The terror of losing him crashed into the relief of having him back, and Madison couldn't stop the shaking. She cut the engine, got out, and blinked back the sting in her eyes as she walked toward him.

Sam frowned. He flicked his cigarette to the pavement, crushed it under his shoe, and reached for the car door.

"Don't go," Madison said.

She wrapped her arms around him, pressing her face against his back. The clean cedar scent on him steadied her breathing.

Hearing the quiver in her voice, Sam hesitated, then said, "I'm not handing Quinn Group over yet. And I'm not letting you and Johnny happen! You don't have to do this."

There was a tired resignation in his voice.

A sharp ache hit Madison in the chest. Without another thought, she stepped in front of him and hugged him tight again.

"It has nothing to do with Johnny. I ended things with him. From now on, I only want you."

Sam stiffened. Before he could respond, Madison looped her arms around his neck and kissed him. Her soft lips pressed against his as her scent flooded his head, stoking something dark in his eyes.

His gaze darkened with hunger, and he grabbed her waist, pinning her back against the hood of the car. "Do you even know what you're doing?"

Sam's breathing was rough and uneven. His brows were knit tight, and his eyes fixed on Madison with something almost feral.

She let out a short, bitter laugh. She was terrified to her core now that he pinned her beneath him, but as long as she held his gaze, that old calm would return.

"I know what I'm doing. Are you going to turn me down?" Madison asked.

Trembling, she lifted her chin with effort and brushed her lips to his again.

Madison slowly sank to her knees as pain tore through her chest.

Was Sam just as heartbroken in her past life when she kept hurting him, pushing him away, and keeping her distance?

The newly hired butler, Eric Randall, lingered nearby and asked cautiously, "Ms. Quinn, shall we remove all the furniture?"

Madison wiped her eyes and steadied herself.

She had a second chance now, and she wasn't going to make the same mistakes again. Everything between her and Sam was on Johnny and Kaitlyn. She wasn't letting those bastards off easy.

Madison glanced at the furniture piled by the door. Kaitlyn had charged it all to Madison's card after moving in.

Back then, Kaitlyn kept taking digs at Madison's taste, both to her face and behind her back. She then threw out the furniture Madison's parents had left behind without asking and replaced it with all of this.

Madison grabbed a vase and smashed it against the floor. Her eyes hardened. "Damned junk! Burn it all. And pull every receipt for these pieces. It's time we settled those debts!"
