Back in Time to Fall for Him novel Chapter 126

"Ms. Quinn, Mr. Goodwin really is busy right now. Could you cut him some slack?" Brett asked, forcing down his impatience and trying to talk sense into Madison.

He added patiently, "He flew back from Marowa overnight just to look for you. He hasn't rested more than six hours since, and he still has to handle company matters and the issues over there."

Hearing that, Madison realized she had jumped to the wrong conclusion. She quickly dropped the attitude and said softly, "I'm sorry. I thought Sam was avoiding me on purpose."

Brett stared at her, speechless for a moment.

"If that's settled, please have your meal. I'll arrange a caregiver to stay with you," he said, then left without looking back.

It wasn't until he stepped out of the ward that something struck him. Since when had Madison become so reasonable and even polite?

"Did she get possessed or something?" Brett muttered under his breath, shaking his head as he walked out of the hospital.

Back at the hotel, Brett found Sam sitting straight on the couch. He walked over and reported, "Mr. Goodwin, as you instructed, I've delivered Ms. Quinn's dinner and arranged a caregiver."

Sam's fingers paused for a beat on the keyboard before he answered with a faint hum and sent Brett back to work.

Meanwhile, Madison, after eating, waited excitedly for Sam to finish and come see her. But even as it got late, he still didn't show.

"Ms. Quinn, it's getting late, so you should rest. The doctor said you need plenty of sleep," Larrisa Lane, the caregiver, reminded gently when she saw Madison forcing herself to stay awake.

Madison rubbed her eyes and gave her a small smile. "It's okay. I slept a lot during the day. I'm not sleepy yet. Go rest, Larissa. I'll just watch a little TV."

She wasn't interested in TV at all. She just wanted to wait.

Sam strode to her bedside, his expression conflicted.

He hadn't planned on coming. But after finishing his work, he couldn't sleep at all. His heart and mind kept drifting to Madison, wondering if her injuries were hurting, if she could rest.

Madison had always been delicate and obsessed with her looks. A mosquito bite could make her worry about scarring.

Now her arms and neck were covered in wounds, and the stitched cut on her ankle would certainly leave a mark. He wondered if she would cry when she saw it.

Thinking about all of that had made it impossible to stay in bed, so Sam had driven over alone. And hearing her soft murmur just now warmed that barren corner in his chest.

When he was missing her like this, was she missing him, too?
