The next day, because Madison had fallen asleep so late, she didn't wake until almost noon.
When Larissa noticed she was awake, she hurried over to help her sit up. "Ms. Quinn, how are you feeling today?"
"I'm alright. My head isn't as dizzy anymore," Madison replied as she settled against the headboard.
Then she noticed the fresh bandages on her arm and asked, "Did they change my dressing today?"
Larissa nodded. "Yes. The nurse came about two hours ago. You were in a deep slumber, so you didn't even stir."
Madison was a little dazed. Had she really slept that soundly?
Then she remembered the figure she had seen before blacking out and quickly grabbed Larissa's arm. "Larissa, did someone come in after I fell asleep last night?"
"No one came, Ms. Quinn," Larissa answered after a brief pause.
"That's impossible. I definitely saw someone."
Madison frowned. She was sure she wasn't mistaken. Seeing her expression, Larissa tried to persuade her. "Maybe you were just too tired and imagined things."
Imagined things?
Madison stared blankly for a moment, and Larissa went on, "If someone had come, I would definitely know. I'm a very light sleeper."
At that, Madison had no choice but to drop it. Maybe she really had been mistaken.
She pressed her lips together and said nothing more. She washed up, ate a simple meal, but the emptiness in her chest wouldn't go away. Her eyes kept drifting toward the door.
It had been this long, and Sam still hadn't come to see her. Was he really that busy, or was he avoiding her on purpose?
Every time Madison had gotten sick before, Sam would always come see her, no matter how busy he was.
The more she thought about it, the worse she felt. She couldn't just sit here and wait. "Larissa, can I borrow your phone?"
