As soon as Madison entered the company, she spotted Brett standing at the front desk.
Surprised, she walked over with Danielle and asked, "Didn't I tell you to go straight to Finance to request the ledgers for the past few years? Why are you waiting here?"
"Hello, Ms. Quinn."
Brett greeted Madison first, then glanced at the receptionist behind him and explained, "I told her you sent me, but she said she hadn't received any notice and wouldn't let me upstairs."
The receptionist, who recognized Madison, hurried to explain, "Ms. Quinn, I really didn't receive any messages."
That was a lie—she did receive it, but Johnny had told her to stop Brett from heading upstairs.
Madison raised a brow at the receptionist, Natalie Hewitt. "Seems like the folks at headquarters didn't take me seriously. I'll call the secretary's office and ask what's going on."
With that, she took out her phone and called the secretary's office over at Quinn Group headquarters.
Seeing this, Natalie's breath hitched. If that call went through, her lie would be exposed.
"M-Ms. Quinn…" she stuttered.
"What is it?" Madison coldly looked up.
Before the receptionist could say anything, the call connected, and a respectful male voice came through.
"Ms. Quinn, how can I help you?"
"Oh, it's nothing much. I'm just checking whether you passed down the instructions I gave you this morning," Madison said.
"I did."
"Has it? Because the receptionist at Rivenhall said she didn't receive anything." Madison looked at Natalie with a faint smile.
Under that gaze, Natalie broke out in a cold sweat.
Just then, the man on the phone spoke in a professional tone, "I'm not sure what happened on your end, but the headquarters did indeed issue a written notice. Would you like to see the document, Ms. Quinn?"
