Madison looked at Kaitlyn, who was asking a question she already knew the answer to, and chuckled. "I did say that once I recovered, I'd come to the company to check the accounts."
Then, she turned to Johnny. "Starting today, I've taken over your office. Also, notify everyone that there'll be a meeting for senior management in half an hour."
Madison gave Johnny no time to react after she spoke. She simply signaled Brett and Danielle to follow her.
It wasn't until the three of them entered the private elevator that the others present snapped out of it.
Johnny and Kaitlyn's expressions were exceptionally grim.
They both knew that no matter how clean they kept the books on paper, Madison would definitely find a reason to kick them out of the company, considering how badly they had fallen out with her.
Once they were kicked out, they would really be left with nothing.
No, there would also be a pile of massive debt. By then, they probably wouldn't even be able to afford a rental in a run-down neighborhood.
The more Johnny and Kaitlyn thought about it, the more panicked they became.
Out of habit, they exchanged a glance. With just one look, they understood each other's intent.
The two quickly notified the other managers about the meeting in half an hour. Then, they headed to Kaitlyn's office in silent agreement.
As soon as they left, the other employees started whispering among themselves—especially those who usually fawned over Johnny and Kaitlyn. They were all rattled.
"It seems Ms. Quinn is coming in hot. She's clearly targeting Ms. Swanson and Mr. York. Did she find out about their relationship?"
"I think so. Just now, Ms. Quinn was obviously targeting Ms. Swanson and Mr. York."
"Is that really the issue now? If both Mr. York and Ms. Swanson go down, we're going down with them."
"What are you panicking for? Ms. Quinn has barely been managing the company. What could she possibly understand about ledgers?" someone asked disdainfully.
But then, another person brought up Brett's identity.
Johnny cut her off in shocked anger before she could finish. "Are you insane? If I make that call, they'll trace it back to me. I'll go to prison!"
Kaitlyn, however, remained calm. "Are you stupid? Can't you just say Madison ordered you to do it?"
"You think anyone would believe that? Madison's never managed the company!"
After Johnny finished speaking, he seemed to think of something. Realization dawned on his face, followed by a ferocious look.
"Kaitlyn, you want me to make that report because you're trying to make me the scapegoat and keep yourself clear!"
Kaitlyn was momentarily at a loss for words. When did Johnny suddenly become smart?
She had indeed planned to push Johnny out front to draw everyone's attention, then hide herself away.
By then, even if Madison kicked her out—with the looks and figure Kaitlyn had maintained over the years and the connections she'd built—it would be easy enough to find a rich man to support her.
