"Why so quiet? Did I hit the nail on the head?"
Johnny stared at the silent Kaitlyn. His face seemed to frost over with a layer of ice, making him look terrifyingly cold.
Kaitlyn snapped back to her senses and flatly denied it. "How could that be? Am I really that kind of person?"
"No one who knows what kind of person you are better than I do." Johnny let out a derisive laugh.
His expression tightened, and his gaze became vicious. "Kaitlyn, I don't care what scheme you're cooking up this time. But if you dare plot against me and make my life difficult, don't expect to walk away unscathed yourself."
When she saw the dangerous air emanating from Johnny, Kaitlyn knew he wasn't joking.
She stopped playing mind games with Johnny and got straight to the point. "Even though we set up Billy as the fall guy, nothing is absolute.
"More importantly, after all these confrontations with Madison, haven't you noticed we've been led around by her the whole time?"
These days, Kaitlyn had been mulling over how Madison had suddenly changed so drastically.
She figured Madison had likely learned of her plans and was taking revenge on them. She wanted to force them to return everything they had taken from her over the years.
In these recent clashes, Madison could clearly have had Kaitlyn and Johnny thrown behind bars. But in the end, all she did was make them pay up.
Johnny thought back over what had happened recently and realized it did seem that way.
Seeing him deep in thought, Kaitlyn voiced her earlier suspicions in a low voice, "Madison has almost taken back everything we took from her, but do you really think she'll let us off?"
"No," Johnny said.
He wasn't stupid. If Madison only wanted to reclaim everything they had taken from her, it would take just a word from her, and they would lose it all.
"I do. Isn't he your lover on the side?" Even just the mention of this made a surge of anger rise in Johnny's chest.
Back then, the two of them had cuckolded him right to his face.
Upon seeing his expression suddenly darken, Kaitlyn knew exactly what he was thinking.
"Chad isn't as simple as you think. If I hadn't quickly offered myself up back then, you and I would've already been sold off to who-knows-where by him."
"What do you mean by that?" Johnny stared at her in shock.
Kaitlyn looked at him coldly. "Chad is no lightweight. He's taken quite a few lives and is involved in human trafficking.
"There's something I didn't tell you. Back then, he set his eyes on the two of us, so I used Madison's name. I promised to be his woman and help him with things. Only then did he agree to let us go."
