Chapter 145

Jonathan listened to his mother, and suddenly, the memories from that day came rushing back, clear as ever. His feelings for Sierra were complicated.

When Natalie was born, Jonathan was already in elementary school. As the only girl in the Sterling family, he truly doted on

her.

But later, he found out Natalie wasn’t really his sister. His real sister was someone else entirely. At that moment, he just couldn’t accept it.

Even though their family ties ran deep, after living together for twenty-two years, the thought of parting with Natalie was unbearable for anyone.

So, the whole family put on a united front, allowing Natalie to remain as the Sterling family’s beloved daughter, keeping the truth hidden from the world.

Meanwhile, Sierra, the true Sterling daughter, ended up being the outsider.

Jonathan’s heart clenched painfully, and a wave of exhaustion washed over him, leaving him feeling drained and aching all

over.

Sharon watched her eldest son, lost in thought, then suddenly let out a cold laugh. “Natalie must know everything. She did it on purpose, trying to turn Sierra against me. She deserves to die.”

Jonathan didn’t hesitate. “I’ll take back all her assets and properties.”

After a brief pause, Jonathan added, “And the shares that originally belonged to Sierra.”

“That’s not enough!” Sharon’s eyes were wild with obsession as she spat out the words. “She drove a wedge between Sierra and me, and now we’re both ruined because of her.

“Just stripping her of her assets isn’t enough. I want her to taste every bit of the misery Sierra went through!”

Sharon was hell-bent on making Natalie pay for every ounce of suffering her own daughter had endured.

Jonathan’s eyes dropped, heavy with a pain he couldn’t shake, as he looked at Sharon, who had completely lost herself to madness.

He realized Sharon had lost herself to madness, and maybe, so had he.

When Natalie arrived, David and Elouise were holed up in a cheap motel that cost just ten bucks a night.

Natalie strutted in wearing designer heels and a pricey coat, looking totally out of place in the filthy, muddy alley.

Frowning and pinching her nose, she climbed the stairs with a look of pure disgust.

Every guy she passed stared at her, and it instantly reminded her of Brock’s sleazy gaze.

Thinking about everything she’d been through lately, Natalie’s hatred for Sierra only deepened.

Brock was a total player with endless demands. To get him to take the fall for her past mistakes, she had to please him every single night.

In just two months, her body was a mess, and not a single patch of skin was spared. All of this was Sierra’s fault.

Chapter 145

Natalie pushed open the door and saw her real parents pacing anxiously in the cramped motel room. She instinctively wrinkled her nose in distaste.

David and Elouise had spent their whole lives working hard, smoking, gambling, and drinking. They looked completely worn out, hunched over and pathetic, as if life had hollowed them out.

When David heard the noise and saw Natalie standing in the doorway, his eyes lit up.

David and Elouise looked at Natalie nervously. “Natalie, you’re finally here. Tell me, what should I do now?”

David fished out the smartphone Natalie had bought for him. She’d mailed it to him back when she was just a kid, and he’d guarded it like treasure all these years. It was still practically untouched.

Natalie shot the worn-out phone a look of pure contempt.

She blew up at them, “How would I know? I told you not to act on your own. I worked so hard to keep the truth buried, and now you’ve gone and messed it all up.”

David instantly felt a wave of guilt. “Natalie, I was just trying to stir up some online buzz so Sierra would cough up some money for my treatment. I’ve got cancer, so I had to resort to this desperate move.”

‘Got cancer? Just go die, Natalie nearly spat out.

But remembering what she needed to do next, she forced herself to say, “Why didn’t you tell me you were sick? I could’ve helped you. Why did you have to hide it from me?”

David didn’t get mad at her attitude. He actually looked touched.

‘That’s my girl,’ he thought. ‘Even after being raised by someone else for over twenty years, she still bought me a phone, and now she’s even willing to take care of my illness.’

David’s eyes went red, almost on the verge of tears. “The doctor said the treatment’s gonna cost a lot. I just want you to save your own money. We can just use that damn Sierra’s instead.”

‘Idiot,’ Natalie cursed to herself.

Natalie said, “Dad, because of what you did, you’re a wanted criminal now, and I’m getting dragged down with you. Do you even know how many followers I have left on Twitter? Tens of millions of people hate me.”

Natalie was fuming. “What did I ever do wrong? I was just a baby back then. I’couldn’t do anything! Why is everyone blaming me?”

Natalie thought, ‘And David, why did he have to work for the Sterlings when I was just a kid? Why did he have to make me realize so young that I was just a fake, living in constant fear and anxiety for all these years?’

She loathed Sierra, and she despised her real parents even more.

She could’ve been living it up as the real Ms. Sterling, but thanks to David, she always felt like a rat in the gutter, just a thief stealing someone else’s life to survive.

David watched as Natalie’s tears kept falling, coughing a couple of times, his eyes filled with nothing but fatherly concern and aching sympathy.

Elouise asked in a timid voice, “Natalie, the police are after us now. We’re planning to hide out back home. Would you want

to come with us?”

If their real daughter came back, David would quit gambling and drinking for good, and there’d be no more violence at

home.

Chapter 145

Elouise gazed at Natalie, her face full of hope, waiting for Natalie’s reply.

Natalie’s expression changed instantly. “I’m not going.”

Natalie knew exactly how isolated and backward that place was. She was enjoying her upscale city life. No way would she ever go back to that dump.

Elouise spoke in a small voice, “Sweetie, don’t be upset. If you don’t want to go, you don’t have to. When things settle down, your dad and I will come find you…”

Just then, Natalie’s phone buzzed with a message. Natalie glanced at the message, and the color drained from her face. Her phone slipped from her hand and clattered to the floor.

“Sweetie…” Elouise called out softly.

Hearing Elouise’s voice, Natalie finally snapped. She shot her parents a vicious glare. “This is all your fault. Now the Sterlings have taken back every last thing I had. I’m nothing. All because of you.”
