Chapter 15
Chapter 15
After the guests picked their animals, the zookeepers started leading them away for some basic handling training. Just as everyone was about to leave. Vivian went pale. “Wait,” she called out.
Sierra and the others stopped and turned, looking confused.
Vivian was fifty-five but could easily pass for early forties, without a single.
hair. She gave Frank a worried look. She
asked. “Frank, I’m kind of scared of birds with beaks. Is there any way I could swap with someone?”
“No problem,” Frank replied instantly. “Just switch with another est.”
Vivian sighed with relief. Her eyes darted toward the two male guests but she quickly looked away. The thought of handling a bear or a snake freaked her out just as much. Finally, her gaze landed on Natalie.
Natalie’s face instantly darkened. ‘She’s doing this on purpose, Natalie thought, resentment simmering.
‘She just wants my raccoon because it’ll get more screen time, so she’s playing the “scared” card. But she’s a triple-crown movie queen. If I say no, I’ll look awful, and she’ll probably hold a grudge.
Seeing Natalie hesitate, Vivian could tell she wasn’t willing. Not wanting to cause a scene, Vivian was about to just drop it when a cool, clear voice spoke up beside her. “Ms. Shea, I’m not scared of parrots. We can swap if you’d like.”
Vivian and the livestream viewers were stunned.
[Wow, Sierra is such a brown-noser. What’s her angle?]
[That was a shady move. Vivian clearly wanted Natalie’s raccoon, but Sierra jumped in first.]
[I heard that Natalie and Sierra are related and work at the same company. Nat hinted that a coworker was sabotaging her. Sierra must be the one.]
[Poor Nat. My heart breaks for her.]
[Are you guys serious? Natalie obviously didn’t want to swap. Sierra saved Vivian from a super awkward situation, and now she’s getting hate? The world’s gone crazy.]
[As a neutral viewer, if I were Vivian, I’d be totally won over by Sierra right now.]
Vivian was completely thrown. It hadn’t even crossed her mind to ask Sierra; she’d always thought Sierra was too aloof and would outright refuse. But out of nowhere, Sierra had volunteered.
Stunned, Vivian handed over her animal card. Sierra took it and followed the group to their assigned areas.
The parrot enclosure was massive. It was a huge, open-air dome covered in mesh. Inside, colorful parrots perched on branches or flew through the air.
The moment Sierra stepped inside, the aviary erupted. The birds started screeching and squawking, flocking to the mesh walls and chirping excitedly at her.
“The director is here. She came to see us.”
“Sierra, we love you.”
The crowd and the zookeeper were amazed, but Sierra was completely unfazed. Since she could visit the zoo in her dreams anytime she wanted, many of the animals already recognized her.
She turned to the keeper and asked, “Have they been fed today? How’s their general condition?”

“Yes, they’ve all eaten. The parrots here are actually in very good health,” the keeper replied, and then paused, surprised that she was briefing a celebrity who probably had no experience with wildlife.
Sierra nodded coolly and pointed to a nearby pink-crested cock too. “That one’s eye looks inflamed. You should have a vet check it for parasites.”
The keeper had initially thought Sierra was just making a random comment. But when she looked closer, she saw the cockatoo’s eye was indeed red and puffy. She immediately called for a colleague to help capture the bird..
“Don’t bother,” Sierra said simply. She looked at the pink-crested cockatoo and commanded, “Come here.”
The keeper was speechless. The livestream viewers were equally stunned.
[Wait, are animals actually that obedient? You just call them and hey come?]
[She’s totally showing off. That parrot won’t listen to her.]
[This is so cringe.]
[I can’t. Didn’t Sierra go to some community college? She’s not exactly a zoologist.]
The chat exploded, with nearly every comment aimed at roasting Sierra.
[Just came from Natalie’s stream. She’s reciting raccoon facts like a pro. You can tell she did her homework. Sierra’s getting shown up big time.]
[The raccoon with Natalie is adorable.]
The chat was a frenzy. The keeper beside Sierra peeked at the comments and felt the need to explain. “You were right about that parrot’s eye. It does look bad. But these birds are usually so skittish, they’re almost impossible to catch…
Before she could finish her sentence, the pink cockatoo wobbled over and hopped directly onto Sierra’s shoulder. It nuzzled against her cheek as if she were its favorite person in the world.
The keeper and the viewers were left utterly dumbfounded.
Sierra ignored everyone’s shock. She gently scooped up the cockatoo and said calmly, “You should get this little one checked.
out. Soon.”
But when she tried to hand the bird over, it immediately fluttered back to her, gazing at Sierra with unwavering devotion.
Finally, after Sierra spent a moment softly reassuring it and promising to visit that night, the parrot reluctantly allowed the other keeper to take it away.
The keeper was still trying to process what had just happened when Sierra brought her back to the task at hand. “So, which parrot am I supposed to be taking care of?”
The question snapped the keeper back to the present. Remembering the live cameras, she quickly guided Sierra deeper into the aviary.
The moment Sierra walked away, the flock of parrots behind her erupted into a chorus of distressed cries, screeching as if their hearts were shattered.
After a short walk, they stopped in front of a separate glass enclosure. Inside, perched listlessly on a wooden beam, was a tiny, pathetic-looking parrot. It was nearly bald, with ragged feathers and barely any energy.
The moment the keeper approached, the parrot let out a piercing shriek. “Dumbass. Get lost.”
The keeper gave Sierra an embarrassed smile. “This one’s called Quickie. It just transferred from a bird rescue a few days

No sooner had she finished than Quickie hopped right up to the glass. “Ugly!” it screamed, fixing a beady-eyed glare on the humans before launching into a torrent of abuse. In under thirty seconds, it had thoroughly insulted both the keeper and
the cameraman.
Just as Quickie was winding up to target Sierra, it noticed that she was smiling at it. Sierra also gave off a strangely comforting vibe. Sierra gently poked the glass near its round belly. Quickie, thinking this meant she liked it, pressed itself eagerly against the spot.
But then Sierra burst out laughing. “Quickie,” she teased, “why are you so ugly?”
Quickie froze. It puffed out its chubby chest, utterly shocked into silence.
Sierra wasn’t done. “Your anxiety sure hasn’t hurt your appetite. With a belly like that, you’re going to give yourself a fatty
liver.”
The next second, Quickie completely lost its mind. It spun around, dove back into its cage, and started wailing like its world had ended.
Sierra could just make out its muffled sobs. It cried, “I gotta lose weight. I gotta get pretty! I gotta be the most awesome bird.”
Right there on the livestream, Quickie proceeded to have an absolute meltdown, screeching and crying its heart out for a solid half hour.
