Those guys at the slaughterhouse had killed so many dogs, but this was the first time they finally got a taste of what it was like to stare death in the face.

Sierra had the owner crushed under her boot, clutching a blood-stained knife.

“Murder’s a crime. If you kill me, you’ll catch a bullet yourself,” the owner threatened.

“I’m not that reckless,” Sierra said, her eyes flashing coldly, a cold sneer on her lips.

For a moment there, she really considered ending the owner right then and there. But someone like him just wasn’t worth it.

Sierra thought, ‘I haven’t even begun to get my revenge on the real culprit behind Payton’s kidnapping, and the family who let it happen. Throwing my life away for someone like him? Not a chance!

Sierra looked down at the owner and said, “But if I just chop off your arms and legs and make sure you stay alive, I wouldn’t even end up in jail, would I?”

The slaughterhouse owner was trembling uncontrollably, scared out of his mind.

Sierra continued, “You do the crime, you pay the price, right? My dog lost its life, but you’ll just lose your arms and legs. Fair trade, don’t you think?”

The owner’s legs turned to jelly, and he started scrambling desperately across the floor. Soon, a puddle of foul-smelling yellow liquid spread over the blood-soaked ground.

He thought, ‘She is a complete psycho! Is she really about to kill me over a dog?’

Just as Sierra was about to raise her knife, the owner nearly fainted from fright. Then police sirens blared outside.

A sleek, low-key BMW slid in among the police cars, and Vivian stepped out. The moment she saw the scene, she froze. Then she snapped out of it. She called out, “Sierra, don’t do anything crazy.”

Vivian’s voice was shaking. She thought Sierra really might kill the owner. She said, “He’s not worth it. Just put the knife down, okay? Come home with me, please. I am begging you.”

As she finished, Vivian broke down sobbing.

No pet owner could bear seeing this scene.

Vivian had started following the account Sierra made for Payton a while back. In almost three years, Sierra had posted over three thousand videos.

Vivian watched every single one, seeing Sierra teach Payton how to use the bathroom, how to do a face scan to open the door, and how to sit up straight like a little gentleman.

Payton’s breed wasn’t even bothered by the cold, but Sierra still spoiled him with a wardrobe packed with

Even after a long day of filming, no matter how tired she was, Sierra would always video call Payton.

Even though Payton couldn’t understand a single word, Sierra would still comfort him over and over, never getting tired of it for a second.

Vivian thought, ‘Sierra pours all her love into Payton. She couldn’t even bring herself to scold him once, yet these people had done something so cruel to him.’

Vivian saw Sierra’s smile, but her eyes were filled with such sorrow that Vivian couldn’t help but feel her heart ache too.

Vivian walked over slowly, took the knife from Sierra’s hand, and tossed it aside. Not caring at all about the blood on Sierra, she gently wiped it from her.

Speaking softly, like a loving mother comforting her child, Vivian said, “Sierra, I know you’re hurting and feel so wronged. Let me take you home, okay?” With that, she tried to lead Sierra away.

But just as they turned to leave, the owner scrambled up from the floor, yelling, “You beat me up like this and think you can just walk out? No way in hell!”

Vivian’s gentle look disappeared in a flash. She didn’t hesitate, just straight-up kicked him.

The owner was caught totally off guard and went tumbling across the bloody floor.

Vivian snapped, “You think I’m just gonna let you walk all over me? I’m shutting this hellhole down today, not tomorrow. Let’s see who’s really gonna stop who.”

Vivian went off so hard that Sierra, still drowning in her grief, was left totally speechless.

Just then, a woman in a police uniform walked over, looking a bit exasperated. She was tall and slim, probably in her late twenties, with a cool, androgynous vibe.

She said to Vivian, “Vivian, don’t get so worked up. Let me handle this.”

Vivian quickly introduced her, “Sierra, let me introduce you. This is my daughter-in-law, Sophie. She just happens to be the cop in charge of this area.”

Sierra was surprised. The insignia on Sophie’s uniform made it clear she was pretty high-ranking.

Sophie’s eyes lingered on Sierra for a moment, then she nodded. She said, “Ms. Sterling, we’ll handle things from here. Don’t throw your future away for a piece of trash like him.”

Even though Sophie wasn’t big on following celebrity gossip, she still knew Sierra was trending hard in showbiz right now.

With everything Sierra had got going for her, it was just not worth wrecking her future over this.

Sophie figured she’d have to spend ages convincing Sierra, but to her surprise, Sierra just nodded and stepped aside, letting her through.

The slaughterhouse owner’s eyes went wide when he saw this. He shouted, “So you’re all in this together, huh? You just saw me get beaten up, and you’re not gonna do anything? I’m taking you all to court.”

He jabbed a finger at Sophie and said, “And I’m reporting you!”

Sophie strode over, twisted the owner’s arm behind his back, and snapped the handcuffs on him in one smooth motion.

“Go ahead and report me all you want,” Sophie said, hauling the owner to his feet and handing him off to a male officer.

She added, “But let me give you a heads-up: we’re gonna look into whether your slaughterhouse has the proper licenses, and if those dogs you killed actually had any quarantine certificates. We’ll get to the bottom of it.”

Hearing this, the owner went white as a sheet.

All those dogs were either stolen pets or strays picked up by dog dealers; no way any of them had quarantine

papers.

Sophie didn’t even bother with him anymore. She just told her team to round up the rest of the slaughterhouse staff and take them back to the station for questioning.

While the cops were still cuffing people, Vivian was cursing out loud, watching Sierra to see how she was doing. After all this, Vivian had no clue how to make Sierra feel better. Sierra was obviously in a really bad mood.

Vivian hesitated. “Sierra, should we take care of Payton’s remains…” Her voice faltered; she was unsure how to continue. She couldn’t wrap her head around how a living, breathing puppy could turn into a pot of dog meat so suddenly.

“Vivian, I’m fine,” Sierra said, taking a deep breath, her eyes burning with hatred. She said, “I’ll handle this myself.”

Vivian was at a loss for words.

Vivian could feel Sierra was close to her, but after all this time together, she realized Sierra had put up walls, making it almost impossible for anyone to truly reach her. It was like she kept everyone at arm’s length, afraid to let anyone in.

Maybe that’s why Vivian felt even more tender and sympathetic toward Sierra.

Sierra grabbed a black trash bag, planning to take Payton’s remains home herself. Just as she was about to crouch down, she heard frantic shouts from the cops outside. At the same time, an awful barking erupted.

Sierra shot to her feet, her heart pounding with grief and shock as she whipped her head toward the door.

Payton bared his teeth at the slaughterhouse owner as he was about to get shoved into the police car, then chomped down on his butt without a second thought.

Payton shouted, “You lowlife! You bought me here for 250 bucks and sold me off for 380. What, you think

dogs don’t deserve respect? That’s straight-up dog abuse, blatant discrimination.”
