Biker's Claim The Broken Angel is Mine (Cora and Jake) novel Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Gunner POV

When I asked for help bringing my girl home, I hoped she would come here. A group of brothers jumped at the chance to help me, her. Oddball had to ask them to sort themselves out, as he recommended fewer go, too many bikes would attract too much attention and might scare the other residents. In the end, it was six brothers on bikes, two in the van and me

It didn’t take long to reach her block of units; the gate opened as we arrived, as I knew it would. Cora would have been anxiously waiting for us, needing to find a safer haven than this one was supposed to be, what it appeared to be.

Cora came flying out of the door and straight to me as I opened my arms and let her embrace me; she was shaking, which worried me. The guys standing about, watching, waiting, searching the area for

threats.

Where do you want to go?The guys were ready to leave, and I still had no real destination, only hope. I don’t trust anywhere else, right now, so your place, please. My heart roared with pleasure. Ready?I asked when she pulled away from me. I was glad to see no tears falling; me and tears don’t go

well.

I took her car keys from her hand and threw them to Loser, who moved to her car with Lobster and Carnage to unload some of her gear into the van and drive her car back to the club hours. My girl will return on the back of me, where she belongs.

Do you need to return the unit keys?

No, it’s already sorted, just need to pull the door closed, leave the keys in the kitchen.

Picked up her helmet and handed it over to her. She didn’t hesitate to put it on, clipping the strap into place, zipping up her jacket, and securing her bag on her shoulder. I was pleased that she was dressed in jeans and wearing her jacket, which made it easier to convince Cora to climb on the back.

Done.Carnage said as he climbed on his bike.

Loser drove Cora’s car, followed by the van. I left last, not that I had to, but I wanted to ensure no one was watching us from the road. I scanned up and down the street, watching for a vehicle that suddenly started up to follow Cora’s car. Nothing happened, just a quiet suburban street, with virtually no traffic, which gave the illusion of being safe, children playing in the local park, laughing, and chasing each other, dogs barking in the background, a normal day, life goes on. It was a peacefullooking area, and I can see why it was thought to be safe, but safe means different things to different people.

I rode back to the clubhouse on cloud nine. The feel of my girl’s body on my back was comforting, for now my girl was living with me again, right where she belongs. The boys are clowning around, making her giggle behind me, purring me on to join in, but I won’t. Not that I can’t, but I have precious cargo on board,

Cate

and that kind of clowning around can be lifethreatening, if she reacts wrongly, to the sudden changes on the bike, sending gravity the wrong way Maybe when Cora has had more experience on the back of me, I will give her some of those thrills that she’s chasing.

We pull into our carpark, and some patch ladies come out to see who has arrived. Scones came out too, and the moment Cora was off the bike, and before she had a chance to remove her helmet, Scones had pulled Cora into her arms and was rocking side to side, whispering words to Cora as she did.

Gunner, where do you want her things?Loser asked with a smile on his face, watching the reunion between Scones and Cora.

All of it to my room, will sort it out later. The guys started to unload the van and do the walk upstairs, Scones still not let go of Cora.

Hey, babe. Let’s get that helmet off.I reached out, unclipped the strap, and removed the helmet. Scones wrapped her arms back around Cora and led her inside, and away from me. I didn’t mind; she was going to be in my bed tonight, and I could let her get reacquainted with Scones and any other ladies that she wanted to catch up with. This was her time, and I feel she needs to reconnect with them; their warm welcome back home will help me convince her never to leave again.

That’s the hope, not that I had planned it; I know how much most of the ladies loved Cora while she lived with us, and have missed her warm, infectious laugh. The club will feel whole again, and the guys will be hoping to have more of that wonderful food that she can cook.

Good job, we can all relax now, and maybe you will be less of a bear.Oddball slapped me on the back.

Me? A bear? Never.I put my hand over my heart as if I had been wounded, looking at him with what I had hoped was a hurt face.

Now you are back, how about finishing that bike investigation? I have already sent an sss to the police that we have a bullet that was stuck in the engine, before the removal. At the same time, it was seen in the engine and the picture of the bullet once out, clearly showing the marks, they will be over later today, to look at what you have discovered, the chief, admits that they didn’t pull the bike apart, which was already knew, and that they missed the bullet, and have classed the that it’s murder, and not an accident, and will give the proper attention that murder cases deserve. For me, it’s too late; they have missed the window of searching the accident area. I want you to be in my office when Chief Benson arrives, and I need more ears to listen to him. He might want to talk to the guys who were with him. Whatever happens, do not let the chief or his officers be alone with any of our lads. I don’t want the police trying to push my boys into making some false statements. I have said the same to Dozer, one of us will always be with the police, and if there are more than three arriving, then we can call in more men.I had some bad experiences with the police and their interrogations in my youth, and we have never forgotten them. Even though we have a new chief who appears less biased, we still don’t trust them.

On the whole, we get on okay with the police, help out when we can, safety promotions, help out on fundraiser drives, and rescues, you name it, we are communityminded; however, the previous police chief made things difficult with his prejudices against people he can’t control. It’s improved with the new chief

joining us. But we still don’t trust the police, once bitten twice shy and all that.

This was partly why I understand Cora’s reluctance to trust us, me, because she has been hurt badly, and you never forget that kind of hurt. I know, some hurts never completely heal.

I returned to the workshop and continued disassembling the bike, trying to make sure no part was missed. I found a second bullet in the tyre casing, so the poor lad had two bullets; he didn’t have a chance. Just as I finished up, Loser came in and informed me that the police had arrived. I put the second bullet in a bag and marked it where it was found, and brought the evidence with me to Oddball’s office.

Oddball, a moment,” I called him before he took the police into the office. Fortunately, there were only two police officers, the chief and some dude I don’t know.

Dozer, take them to my office, please.Oddball and I walked out the back, and I showed him the second

bullet.
