Biker's Claim The Broken Angel is Mine (Cora and Jake) novel Chapter 89

Chapter 89

Gunner POV

After walking downstairs, a quick kiss and leaving Cora to do her thing, theaded to Oddball’s office.

A quick three raps on the door and I entered. Oddball was behind his desk, on the phone, with maps spread out on the nearby table, covered in red and green markers. I moved to check out the maps.

Do it, and do it now.Oddball slammed the phone down, mumbling something unintelligible.

Problems?I asked Oddball as I continued to look at the maps.

Flat tyre, in the van. Sometimes I wonder if the men have a brain in that head on their shoulders. Of course, you change the fuking tyre, we can catch up with the delivery van later. Why call to ask if they should change it?Oddball was raving on.

It would have been shot out, you know this, they must have been worried they would be shot at when they started to change it.I defend the men, they would have thought it was shooters, if it were me, I would have hesitated too.

But we are following the shooters.Oddball looked at me strangely.

No, we are following the men we think are the shooters. What if they are not, and the shooting and the

delivery vans were coincidences?I think the men did right. Oddball was too focused on the delivery

vans, which I believe do hold some of the shooters, but what if there are more than those we know of?

You’re right, I am not thinking straight, good call.Oddball calmed down and took a deep breath.

He was so frustrated over all of this, and I don’t blame him.

He had a child on the way, and his focus had changed a little.

Whether he noticed the change or not.

He was slowly changing, just like I am for Cora. It wasn’t a bad thing. It’s different and should be better,

r maturing?

This is where the van got a flat, nowhere near any of the reported shootings. I want you to check the tyre

when they return.

Anything else?

No, and thanks, I was having a meltdown.

Don’t fret it, a lot is going on, you need a break, find that house, and relax with Strike, have some time alone together, when today’s over, and we have an idea whether we are on the right track or not. Go to Machellies or somewhere nice, away from all of this, defrag.I urged, before leaving to see Hacker, that they check whether the drone picked up anything strange around the time of the blowout.

The guy was setting up camp earlier, so our guy, who already had a flat, would already be on his way

towards him. We called them and advised them to wait it out, have a cigarette, and take a break. We will let them know when tu move un

I walked Cora and watched until her car was gone, then headed back to Hacker. With the delivery driver doing something different, be will need more eyes on the drones.

Can you watch that screen and see what that guy’s doing? I need to keep following the other one; he appears to be going where he should.I sat in front of the screen and watched the guy keep setting up his camp. It was basic, but had everything he needed. It appeared he was going to sleep way too early, my gut tells me he was going to catch a couple of hours and then ride out. He had removed the bike from the hitch on the back of the van, which tells me he was not going to stay at night, or why take down the bike?

Oddball came in about an hour after this guy hit the sack.

What’s he doing?Oddball asked, looking over my shoulder.

Looks to be sleeping, he climbed into that sleeping bag, and hasn’t emerged yet, see here, that’s his head, not moved a muscle.

Don’t think it’s a dummy in there?

His bike is still there, and there’s no other way out of that bag than the way he got in. Look, he rolled over.A hand came out of the bag and rubbed the head, and snaked back in.

Going to be another long night, where’s the van?

On the side of the road.

Tell them to go to the service station, fuel up, and get them to repair the tyre, and to eat, might as well be

useful, I want that tyre brought back here, when it’s been changed, have them watch him do it, if there’s a

bullet, I want to know about it.Oddball left, heading back to his office. This kind of work he can’t handle,

he needs to be busy, and thinking, sitting watching was never his thing, where I do a lot of that, when I am

on enforcer duty, at the door or bar, you get used to it.

Two more hours passed, and the other delivery van had parked up and set up camp, while the one I was watching looked to be still sleeping; the other one was on his bike, heading towards where our men were hiding out. If the man pulls out a rifle, the men at the service station will get the word to move the delivery van, and our van will move towards where the guy has gotten set up, so we can bring him down and straight into the holding van. As Cora suggested, we have dart guns to bring the men down quickly and

cleanly.
