The director’s words left Connor stunned. He hadn’t expected that Xylia was truly such a skilled doctor. Only now did he realize that by ruining Xylia’s right hand, he had essentially destroyed her entire career.
A trace of guilt spread in his eyes–she should have had a much better future.
Tessa pretended to be surprised as she looked at Xylia, “So you’re actually that good? Why didn’t you ever tell us? We’re family. Your achievements should be our pride too.
She then shot a sly glance at the director. “And you and the director get along so well.”
Tessa’s implication was clear. If Xylia truly had such abilities, she wouldn’t hide them. Now, it must have been because she’d used some sort of trick to get close to the director, who was now speaking on her behalf.
Hearing this, Connor’s guilt vanished instantly. “Xylia, is it that hard to admit you’re not as good as you pretend? You think playing these games will make me think better of you? Don’t dream.”
Xylia let out a bitter smile. “I’m not playing any games for you. You don’t need to be so narcissistic With that, she ignored Connor’s angry glare and turned to the director. “Let’s go.”
The director understood this was a personal matter for Xylia and didn’t ask any further questions, following her out.
Her back was slender, yet stubborn.
As Connor watched her leave, an emptiness stirred in his chest. He instinctively wanted to call out to her, but Tessa held his hand.
“What’s wrong, Connor?” Tessa asked with a smile.
He turned back to her and suddenly gave up. He had liked Tessa for so long, and now she was by his side. He shouldn’t be tangled up with Xylia anymore. Lowering his gaze, he muttered, “Nothing.”
“Connor, you really shouldn’t have exposed Xylia in front of everyone like that. She must be upset. You’re a man; you should be more generous.” Tessa patted him on the shoulder.
Connor came back to his senses and smiled gently at Tessa. “Let’s go. I’ll go with you to your check–up.”
After finishing her resignation formalities, Xylia was about to leave the hospital when her phone rang. It was a call from Joshua.
Xylia relaxed for a brief moment, not realizing that in the short time she had spent with Joshua, he had become the only person who could make her feel at ease.
“Xylia, do you have time?” His voice still carried that charm.
Xylia immediately thought of his handsome face and those warm, gentle eyes. “What’s up?”
“Well, I just wanted to ask if you’d like to have dinner with me,” Joshua said.

Chapter 35
Xylia suddenly realized how much Joshua had looked out for her during this time.
E55 vouchers
She had just received the payment from her collaboration with Quezada & Co. Apparel Design, so it felt like the right moment to thank him. “I should be the one treating you to dinner. How about it?”
There was a brief pause on the other end, followed by a soft laugh. “Sure, if you’re paying. I’ll come.” His voice had a hint of playfulness that made her cheeks warm.
After confirming the time. Xylia hung up the phone.
Just as she looked up, she locked eyes with Connor, who was glaring at her. “Who are you having dinner with?” he demanded.
Xylia’s smile faded, and she coldly replied, “None of your business.”
“Is it that man? Xylia, don’t forget you’re still my wife. You went public with our marriage online, and now you want to go on a date with another man? Are you trying to embarrass me?” Connor’s tone grew angrier.
Xylia couldn’t understand. Connor was the one who had released the video of her hit–and–run online. Even if her identity as Connor’s wife had been exposed, that was also his own doing. And now, he was blaming her.
“You know exactly who released those things online. If you’re embarrassed by me, then let’s go file for a divorce right now,” Xylia shot back.
Connor could tell that Xylia had changed. She hadn’t been this firm with him before, but now she was standing up for herself. He recalled what Tessa had said that Xylia had finally shown her true nature.
Just then, Tessa walked over, holding medical reports, a smug look in her eyes. “Xylia, I just heard from your colleagues that you’ve resigned.
“You’re not quitting because Connor and I exposed you, are you? But your relationship with them seems really good. They were all praising you, saying they’d throw you a farewell party.”
Connor then realized that Xylia’s phone call had been about a farewell dinner with her colleagues.
Thinking about how her hand had been ruined because of him, his anger slowly faded. Her injury and resignation were his fault, and he knew he was the one who should make things right.
He pulled a card from his pocket and handed it to Xylia. “Go treat your colleagues to a nice meal later. Don’t hold back
Tessa frowned.
Xylia coldly stared at the card, letting out a sarcastic laugh. “Keep it for yourself.” With that, she walked away.
Tessa nudged Connor with her elbow. “You gave her so little, no wonder she’s unhappy. Can’t you be more generous?”
Connor’s anger flared again. Just as he was about to chase after Xylia, he stopped and snorted. “Better this way, saves money!”
