After Joshua kept urging her, Xylia got back into bed.

She felt a little worn out.

Not long after Xylia lay down, Eliza showed up.

With that, she dragged a stool over and sat right next to Joshua.

Once the nurse had set up their IVs and left, Eliza saw that Xylia was still asleep. She pulled out the breakfast she’d brought and said to Joshua,

“You haven’t eaten since yesterday, right? You must be starving. This is your mom’s special shredded chicken congee, made fresh this morning. It used to be your favorite.”

Eliza popped open the Junchbox and ladled out a small bowl for him.

She’d brought all sorts of food, including a big thermos of chicken soup she’d stayed up late last night to make.

Joshua was completely immobilized at the moment.

He had no memory of Eliza at all, so having her try to feed him just felt weird and uncomfortable.

As soon as Joshua mentioned Noelle, Eliza’s face darkened.

She suddenly dropped the spoon into the bowl, her eyes locking onto Joshua with a sharp, piercing glare.

“You…” Eliza blurted out, her voice coming out louder than she intended.

She glanced over at Xylia, who was sleeping soundly nearby, and quickly lowered her voice.

But the anger in her tone was still obvious.

She glared at Joshua and said, “Listen up–no matter what happened after you lost your memory, your wife is Xylia. Noelle only tried to take advantage of you when you were vulnerable. If you ever betray Xylia because of her, I’ll beat you senseless right now, just so when your memory comes back, you won’t be able to run off with some other woman and break Xylia’s heart!”

Even though this woman was a total stranger to him,

when she lost her temper, Joshua couldn’t help but feel a jolt of fear.

Joshua wasn’t trying to make a big deal out of it–the only person who’d really been around him lately was Noelle.

Joshua stayed quiet, and Eliza’s anger slowly faded.

She picked up the spoon again, ready to feed Joshua.

Joshua spoke up again, “Can you get me a male nurse or something?”

He just couldn’t bring himself to let Eliza feed him–it felt way too awkward with someone he barely knew.

Eliza was struggling not to lose her cool.

If this had been the old Joshua, she would’ve just dumped the congee right over his head.

But seeing that unfamiliar, distant look in his eyes now, her heart softened, and all that anger just faded away.

She quickly found a male attendant to help Joshua out.

Joshua finally dug in.

Eliza stayed nearby, keeping watch over both their IVs.

Xylia looked a little pale.

Eliza leaned in, worry written all over her face, and checked Xylia’s forehead for a fever,

“She’s not running a fever, so why does she look so pale?” Eliza muttered.

Joshua filled Eliza in on what had happened that morning.

Eliza gently dabbed the sweat from Xylia’s forehead with a tissue, feeling a pang of motherly worry as she spoke.

“Why is this girl so foolish? Doesn’t she know she shouldn’t be overdoing it with her health? If I’d known, I wouldn’t have gone home last night,” Eliza muttered to herself.

Even in her sleep, Xylia was tossing and turning, unable to rest easy.

Xylia mumbled in her sleep, “Joshua…”

Eliza tucked the blanket around her and whispered softly, “Silly girl, Joshua’s here now.”

She gently wiped away a tear from the corner of her eye, then turned and saw her troublemaker son Joshua, frowning and watching her from the side.

He looked anything but pleased.

Eliza asked, “What are you thinking about?”

Joshua suddenly asked, “Who’s Joshua?”

Eliza was taken aback for a second, caught off guard by his question.

She felt another pang of sadness well up inside her.

She said softly, “Silly kid, Joshua–that’s you.”

Now, caught between being Joshua Garcia and Joshua, he just lay there, not even sure what to think anymore.

He turned his head, lying flat on the bed, staring blankly up at the ceiling.

Seeing him like this, Eliza felt a strange sense of déjà vu–it was all too familiar.
