Chapter 377
The police only told Xylia that Noelle had a mental breakdown.
They didn’t tell her anything more.
Xylia got the address of the mental hospital and hurried over.
The mental hospital was perched on the hillside.

When Xylia found Noelle, she was huddled in a corner, dressed in a patient’s uniform, her hair tangled and her face ghostly pale.
She kept muttering under her breath.
Noelle’s voice trembled as she repeated, “Why did you lie to me? Why did you lie to me? Why did you lie to me?”
She was kept alone in a room, completely isolated from everyone else.
Xylia asked the doctor, “What is she saying?”
The doctor replied, “It might just be her own fantasies, but it’s also possible someone really did trick her. Sometimes, people in her condition mix reality with their imagination.”
“Can I go in and see her?” Xylia asked.
The doctor frowned. “I wouldn’t recommend it. She’s really not doing well right now.”
Noelle’s head snapped up when she saw Xylia, her gaze freezing for a moment. Then, like she’d lost her mind, she scrambled to her feet and charged straight at Xylia.
The doctor rushed to slam the door shut.
Through the glass, Noelle was banging on the door like a maniac, her eyes wild and bloodshot, screaming insults.
“Xylia, this is all your fault! You did this to me! I’m going to kill you! I’m going to kill you!”
She kept hammering her fists against the glass, relentless and furious.
Noelle’s crazed behavior and the hatred burning in her eyes made Xylia feel a chill run down her spine–she couldn’t help but be afraid.
The doctor glanced at Xylia.
“Did you have a bad relationship with her before?” the doctor asked
Xylia thought for a moment, then nodded. “Sort of, we weren’t exactly on good terms
Then I’d suggest you don’t visit her anymore, just in case it makes her condition worse, the doctor said
Xylia had no choice but to leave
Seeing Noelle like this, Xylia felt a strange sense of unease in her heart
Noelle’s obsession ran so deep, she’d thrown away her entire life for it

But was it really worth it?

By the time Xylia made her way down from the mental hospital and got home, it was already evening.
As soon as she walked in, Joshua came over with a worried frown, his eyes full of concern.
“Where have you been? You didn’t check your messages or answer your phone. I called Josie to ask about you, but she just said you were in a bad mood. What happened?” Joshua asked.
Joshua was usually pretty quiet, so seeing him talk this much was unusual.
It was obvious he’d been worried about her for a long time.

Thinking about how Josie and Zane had plotted against Joshua, Xylia’s heart twisted uncomfortably.
She threw herself into Joshua’s arms, her voice muffled as she spoke.
“It’s nothing serious, just had a bit of a falling out with a friend,” Xylia said, her voice low.
Joshua comforted her, gently patting her back.
“It’s normal for friends to have disagreements. Don’t take it to heart,” Joshua said softly.
Xylia didn’t say anything. She just buried her head in his chest and stayed there quietly for a while.
Joshua ruffled her hair. “Are you hungry? I made you something to eat.”
Xylia lifted her head from his arms and gave him a complicated look, unsure what to say.
She shot him a look that clearly said, “You? Cook?”
Joshua caught her skeptical stare and, remembering his first kitchen disaster, his eyes darted away, a little embarrassed.
“I’ve been sneaking in some practice lately,” he admitted quietly.
He rubbed his nose, dodging Xylia’s gaze, and gently led her over to the dining table.
It was already late.
Eliza and her husband had eaten early and gone upstairs to rest, most likely taking Kieran with them.
Downstairs, it was just Xylia and Joshua,
A steaming bowl of noodles sat on the dining table.
It was a clear broth with a soft–boiled egg resting on top, fresh greens, and a few plump, shelled shrimp nestled next to the
veggies.
It looked great, and the aroma was mouthwatering.
‘He’s gotten so much better at this so quickly, Xylia thought, genuinely surprised.
“You made this? Xylia asked, her voice full of surprise.
Joshua nodded, pulled out a chair, and motioned for Xylia to sit.

Xylia obediently sat down, picked up her chopsticks, and started digging in.
Joshua leaned in beside her, his head tilted as he watched her every move.

There was a subtle look of anticipation in his eyes.
Xylia took a bite, not showing any emotion at all.
Joshua frowned, looking a little anxious. “What’s wrong? Is it not good?”
He’d tasted it himself several times, and honestly, this bowl of noodles was way better than any of his previous attempts.
‘Maybe Xylia just doesn’t like the flavor?‘ Joshua thought, a bit worried.
Just as he was thinking about making another bowl, Xylia turned to him with a playful smile.
“It’s delicious,” she said.
There was a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Joshua finally realized she was just messing with him.
He gave her cheek a gentle pinch, his smile doting.
“Not eating?” Xylia asked.
Joshua shook his head.
“I already ate,” he replied.
When he was testing his noodle skills earlier, he didn’t want to waste any of the failed batches–so he ended up eating them all himself. Honestly, he was still stuffed from those experiments.
Xylia smiled and picked up a shrimp with her chopsticks, offering it to him.
Joshua didn’t refuse.
Halfway through her meal, Xylia suddenly turned to Joshua.
“Josie’s friend knows Dr. Kelsey. I wanted to talk to you–would you be okay with us going to Manedom for the surgery?” she said.
Her voice was calm
But Joshua could sense there was something else behind her words.
He just couldn’t shake the feeling that Xylia wasn’t as happy as she seemed
She had something weighing on her mind.
He nodded. ‘It’s up to you.”
Since Xylia didn’t want to talk about it, he didn’t press her for answers
Xylia finished her noodles quietly. When she tried to take the bowl to the kitchen to wash it, Joshua stopped her.

“I never let you near the kitchen before, so why would I start now? Let me do it,” Joshua said, grinning as he spoke.
Joshua was firm about it.
