Chapter 378
Josie stepped out of her room, feeling exhausted.
Sure enough, there was no sign of Jasper outside.
The dining table was loaded with all her favorite dishes.
When it came to taking care of her, Jasper always went all out.

Even when she was eating alone, the table was still piled high with a dozen or so dishes, every single one her favorite.
There was a note left on the table.
It read: [Eat well. I’ll take care of Jace. And… I’m sorry.]
Josie’s fingertips went pale as she clutched the note tight.
She lingered by the table for a while before finally sitting down to eat.
From behind the half–open door, Jasper watched Josie start her meal. Only then did he let out a breath and quietly leave.
After Xylia and Joshua talked it over,
joshua insisted on waiting until after Nina’s hundred–day banquet before having the surgery.
Xylia had to set up a new time with Josie.
osie said that was fine.
After a brief pause, Xylia got another message from Josie.
Xylia, am I allowed to come to Nina’s hundred–day banquet?”
Kylia paused, her finger hovering over the screen when she saw the message.
She quickly typed back to Josie.
‘Didn’t I already send you the invite?”
Josie replied in a flash (Okay, I’ll definitely be there.]
After putting her phone down, Xylia looked at Joshua, who was holding Nina in his arms.
She walked over with a simile.
“Okay, it’s bedtime for Nina. Stop playing with her and help her fall asleep Xylia said
Nina’s big, round eyes were still wide open When she saw Xylia coming over, she waved her little hats, reaching out for Xylia to hold her.
Xylia smiled and tried to take Nina from Joshua’s arms.

But Joshua pulled away before she could.
“She’s getting heavy, you’ll get sore holding her. Let me put her to sleep,” he said.
Seeing her mom wasn’t going to pick her up, Nina’s lips started to quiver, about to burst into tears.
Joshua quickly reached out and playfully pinched the baby’s lips.
Nina was about to cry, but her attention was quickly caught and she stopped mid–whimper.
Joshua gently patted her back.

Every night, Nina went to bed right on schedule, and now, as sleepiness washed over her, her eyes slowly closed and she forgot all about wanting her mom to hold her.
Xylia was both surprised and amused by the scene.
“You’ve really got this little one all figured out,” she teased.
Joshua shot Xylia a look, then gently set the sleeping Nina down in her crib.
Then he turned around and picked Xylia up in his arms.
Xylia gasped in surprise, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck.
Joshua frowned, looking all serious as he hoisted her up a bit, then commented,
“Why are you so skinny?”
Xylia followed Joshua’s gaze and looked herself over.
She’d actually gained quite a bit of weight while she was pregnant with Nina, and after giving birth, thanks to all the care she got, she’d filled out even more than before.
But with everything that had happened lately, she’d dropped a few pounds.
Still, she definitely had more weight on her than before she was pregnant with Nina.
She gave Joshua a confused look, thinking to herself, ‘Is he for real right now?‘
She squeezed his solid bicep and teased, “You just got better–why are you acting all macho already?
Joshua looked down at Xylia, his eyes suddenly darkening.
That look, the way his jaw clenched, made it obvious she’d struck a nerve
Xylia instinctively pulled her hand back.
Thinking over her words, she finally caught on to what she’d sand
She’d basically just challenged his pride as a man
She glanced at Nina sleeping in the crib–the hint couldn’t be clearer
Now was definitely not the time.

Chapter 378
Joshua lowered his gaze, his eyes dark and unreadable as they fixated on Xylia’s plump lips.
He turned and walked over to the bed, gently laying her down.
As he leaned in, his breath was hot against her skin, his voice low and husky.
“Just one kiss, that’s okay, right?” he murmured.
Before Xylia could even process what was happening, Joshua’s lips crashed down on hers.

This kiss wasn’t like the ones before–gentle and lingering, guiding her to part her lips and surrender to him.
It was exactly how Joshua had pictured it in his mind.
Her lips were plush and sweet–tasting, and kissing her felt like coming home.
It was like they’d done this a thousand times before.
Xylia’s scent was utterly addictive–he was hooked, powerless to resist.
He pulled her closer, his arms tightening as if he could never let her go, wanting her to become a part of him.
His blood roared in his veins, every cell alive with excitement.
Xylia had no choice but to tilt her head back, her hands clutching his shirt as he stole her breath, inch by inch.
The gentle kiss quickly deepened under his relentless advance, growing more intense with every passing second.
Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore. She pushed at his shoulder and turned away from his lips, escaping his kiss.
Joshua pulled her close, lying down with her in his arms, his face gently nuzzling into the crook of her neck.
Xylia gulped in a breath of fresh air.
She reached out and ran her fingers through Joshua’s thick hair, and as if something just occurred to her, she asked,
“Why did you invite the Ford family to Nina’s hundred–day banquet?”
Xylia had spotted that familiar name on the guest list just today.
Connor
Joshua couldn’t stand Connor.
“Why did you invite him?”
Joshua’s deep voice rumbled in her car
“He’s been coming after me, both openly and behind my back I need to put him in his place,” he said
As he spoke, Joshua lifted his head, his gaze burning with a hint of red as he lucked eyes with Nyla, ware hing her face for any trace of emotion.
He asked, “If I do something to him, would you feel had for him!”
He didn’t take his eyes off her for a second, waiting to hear what she’ll say
